As a counselor, I want to help you and your family to learn and grow. With everything going on, it may feel like you are just surviving, when you deserve to THRIVE! I believe in working with the ‘big picture’, considering the mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual domains that affect a person’s health and wellness. Each client is unique, and as such, the treatment plan will be tailored to suit your specific strengths and needs.

It takes a lot of courage to decide to look for help. It shouldn’t have to feel even riskier finding a therapist who you are comfortable with. I want you to feel like we are a good fit because therapy is like a long hike; sometimes there are steep inclines, sometimes there are beautiful views, but you definitely don’t want to hike with someone you’re not meshing with. Because this is so important, I offer a free initial 30 minute consultation, where you can come, meet me and get an idea of how I would approach working with you to find a way through what you are struggling with.

No one enjoys feeling trapped, incapable of escape, and unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is all the more true when the bonds of our entrapment are made up of our mind, our relationships, and our circumstances. While there is a limit to what each person has control over in their lives, many have control over far less than what they are capable of. My goal is to help you increase your power over yourself, closing the gap between where you are and where you could be.

I use a cognitive behavioral approach for therapy. In therapy, I am "problem-focused" and "action-oriented" in addressing specific problems the patient is experiencing. Therapy is goal-oriented and takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. The goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people's difficulties and thus change the way they feel. This approach works by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs, and attitudes that are held and how these processes relate to the way a person behaves.

CSCC's approach to counseling is one that first emphasizes the critical need we all have for our stories to be heard and known. Moving from intellectually sharing the details of our lives to building a sense of knowing one another and being together in the context of relationship is a process for which we rarely make time, but it is the crucible for change. In the context of confidentiality and safety, trust can be shared, hurts can be healed, paths can be explored, and life, in all of its complexity, can be celebrated.

I am a firm believer that everyone needs help getting back on track sometimes. And that's OK! Life can demand a lot from us, just like we can demand a lot from ourselves. These demands can result in things like anxiety, depression or low self-esteem. Our lives can feel chaotic and out of our control sometimes. When we feel out of control, our emotional and mental states can suffer. It can be hard to ask for help when these things happen and you may start to feel very alone. I am here to collaborate with you and to help you determine where you are at now and where you would like to be in the future.

Currently Accepting New Clients. I am an interpersonal process/person-centered therapist. I believe that many clients experience mental health concerns that are interpersonal in nature. This could include relationships with spouse/partner, family, siblings, co-workers, employers, God and/or SELF. Within relationships we experience our emotions and our therapeutic relationship becomes a tool for addressing these concerns. I tend to be a direct therapist and share my feelings, thoughts and reactions. I use a lot of metaphor and narrative in therapy and expect clients to come prepared to talk about things in therapy.

Having trouble sleeping? Stressed out, feeling numb, paralyzed or confused? Perhaps you find yourself stuck in the grip of an image of yourself from your childhood, an echo of unkind or absent parents. Many people come to me because they feel hopeless and can no longer find joy or meaning in their lives. Still others are haunted by traumatic events that they can't get out of their heads. Therapy is a powerful healing alliance between therapist and client. I work with and for you; you are the expert on you.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
