I work with people who have trouble regulating emotion. I am skilled in several different types of therapy, however, I have a significant amount of advanced training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Gottman Method couples therapy. I tend to work with people who are experiencing depression, suicidal ideation, self harming behavior, trauma and anxiety. I focus on providing Autism assessments, ADHD assessment and treatment, clinical supervision and marathon therapy. I'm based in LSL now and offer telehealth for people located in Montana. Now enrolling new members for adult and teen DBT groups starting in June!

Our human brains are fascinating in what they allow us to accomplish, but sometimes they can be our own worst enemy! This is done using a person-centered dialectical-behavior therapy (DBT) approach to help you gain insight into yourself while providing you with the tools and encouragement to thrive instead of just survive. Life can be very challenging at times. There are times in life that it helps to have someone to talk to. My goal is to help you learn the skills it takes to work through difficult times and different types of situations. We will work together to develop treatment goals and work towards those goals in a safe environment. We will work together to identify emotions that at times we do not even realize that keep us in the past. I have worked with many clients over the years that have issues with self-harm, anxiety, Bipolar, Depression, Schizoaffective disorder, Anger, etc. and have had great success with their treatment.

I have had extensive experience working with teenagers, families and couples. I am successful in assisting these clients with depression, anxiety, resolving abusive relationships, addictions, anger management. I have had extensive training and trained others in regards to Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Being a parent of two special needs adopted children, my academic knowledge is supplemented with the personal experience f daily life with my autistic son and bipolar daughter., Also, having a gifted older son adds to the challenge of being able to assist parents in parenting and disciplining each child based on their unique needs.

Dr. Mary Ward Black is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing within the Big Sky Psychological Consortium. She enjoys providing assessment (ADHD and psychodiagnostic) and therapy services to adolescents and adults, and uses a diverse range of evidence-based techniques that integrate cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and client-centered theories. In her practice, Dr. Black emphasizes mindfulness, communication skills, and insight into personal values and meaning. She compassionately collaborates with each individual client, tailoring her therapeutic approach to highlight their personal strengths and values.

My focus is on working with individuals who are "stuck" in unhealthy patterns, couples to create satisfying marriages, and families to create ease of communication and understanding among family members. I specialize in the areas of trauma, abuse, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, stress management, grief and loss, life transitions, women’s issues, and perinatal mental health.

I utilize evidence based therapies such as CBT and mindfulness based strategies with the intent of helping clients reach their goals and increase their quality of life. I have received specialized training in CBT-Insomnia. I have also received certification in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, CBT-Chronic Pain and Empowered Relief which is a 2 hour skill building class for chronic pain. I offer individual therapy, skill building classes and individual intensives. Individual intensives encompass 3-9 hours of work over the course of 2-3 days where you will learn about pain or sleep and gain personalized skills for self management.
