Life has many transitions such as long term relationship commitments, births and deaths. Changes happen as a part of our life's journey and sometimes we need support and help figuring out what is best for us. No one needs to go this alone and therapy can help one define just what and how they want in any given moment of change.

Through a trauma informed combination of mindful based practices, dialectical and somatic therapies, we can uncover how your personal experience has shaped the way you make meaning in order to provide relief and initiate change.
My aim and joy as a therapist is to understand you as an expert on your own life. In order to process the complexity of everyday living, we compartmentalize and make generalizations about our experience. Sometimes we hold on to generalizations that may have served us at one point, but no longer apply to current circumstances. I concentrate on listening, non-judgmental questioning, emotional support and holding space for your process. My collaborative approach focuses on adaptation, allowing us to apply the methods that work best, while processing and making space for what does not work.

Did you know that trauma is stored in your body and mind? And it can lead to many other symptoms that you may be seeking therapy for right now, such as depression, anxiety and stress. I love helping people learn more about this and get reconnected with themselves in order to process and heal trauma. I'm drawn to somatic (body-based) approaches as well as getting to know the different parts of yourself and learning to accept them all. I also have many years of experience providing neurodiversity-affirming therapy.

I offer an empathetic and somatic based approach to my practice.
Have you been feeling as if you are just surviving through life? Feeling drained at the never-ending daily motions? A dullness that never really goes away? That's probably because your body has been stuck in survival mode for so long. It's so easy to feel drawn to those patterns of behavior because it becomes routine. You need connection and safety before being able to feel and heal. To learn about the connection between the body and mind. To learn how to regulate and feel more deeply. I offer practices suited toward attachment.

Completed Level 2 of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy- a somatic focused, mindfulness based approach for treatment of trauma and attachment.
Do you feel stuck and unable to move forward? Is it hard to let go of experiences from your past? Often unresolved issues from the past can interfere with fully enjoying the present moment. If you've experienced trauma, the frightening/overwhelming experience can resurface months or years later, seemingly "out of the blue" and cause symptoms which make it nearly impossible to feel in control of life. Working together in psychotherapy, you will learn strategies to calm your anxiety, reduce stress and be back in the driver's seat of life.

I practice from a largely somatic perspective which is a fancy way of saying working with the body! I firmly believe that by knowing our body and biology more deeply, we can experience healing and gain skills for long-term resilience.
**NOW OFFERING EMDR for TEENS and ADULTS** I see clients with varying concerns; depression, anxiety, sadness, high stress, trauma, and the list goes on. For some they've been struggling for a long time, for others these struggles are new, and for others they don't know when IT started but they just know right now they aren't their best. Taking a trauma-informed and resilience-building approach, we work with the body and mind to transform hurt to healing.

As a level 2 Certified Clinical Trauma Therapist, I use a combination of cognitive and body based interventions to facilitate healing including CBT, and Somatic Experiencing.
What do you really want from counseling? Honestly, don't you just want to ease your pain, stop the suffering, end your struggles, and arrive somewhere better? I understand that you may not care so much about the therapeutic approach, but maybe you will love the emotional release you can experience when you finish a counseling session. Maybe you will feel less burdened, seen, and not so alone. You might decide to come to therapy not because you love therapy, but because you're motivated to get out of the darkness and love your life again.

My orientation is grounded in a body-based (somatic) and mindfulness-centered approach.
I believe that the therapeutic process is about co-creating a safe enough space to explore what is happening under the surface and to develop embodied compassion for ourselves in the process. I am committed to showing up to this work with curiosity, kindness, and presence to support you to be more spacious with yourself and your internal experiences. I bring an awareness of the impacts of systems (patriarchy, racism, transphobia, etc) on our bodies and minds. I support exploration of how systemic oppression and individual traumas and wounds overlap. We work together to find compassion, curiosity, hope, and kindness.

I take a holistic approach to support your healing by utilizing EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and processing of past relationships and trauma.
You have a calm exterior, but inside is a rollercoaster of anxiety and stress. Putting others needs before yours feels like a reflex and you’re burnt out from it. You're that overachiever who, no matter how much you achieve, never quite feels good enough. You want success, but you also want to disappear when the spotlight is on you. You wish to be more assertive but stress, low self-esteem, and overthinking usually wins. Maybe something happened in your past to cause all this. Asking for help feels like stepping into the unknown, but you're tired of feeling this way. You're ready for a shift in how you experience life.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
