I love helping people, who are working in self-empowerment, managing anxiety, and relationship issues. I am a warm, compassionate therapist who strives to provide a welcoming place where my patients feel safe to address and work on their presenting symptoms and challenges.

I have spent time doing individual, couples, and family therapy.
Life can be very confusing sometimes. My understanding is that each of us are different and there is no easy answer for many of life's questions. And, I am happy to be engaged in the mystery of life with you. Using my humanistic and transperonal approach, the goal with my clients is to discover how life's meaning is created for them and what coping skills can be used to help through this process.

I work with you to create a safe and productive working relationship with me to understand the stressors that contribute to your experiences, explore new coping skills and strategies for strengthening relationships.
One way that people can cope with trauma, anxiety and depression is to distract ourselves with work. While this is a functional way to survive, it can also lead to feelings of isolation, numbness, extreme stress and burnout. Future goals and dreams may feel hopeless, you may be feeling like it is getting harder and harder just to move through your day. It may become challenging to connect with others and perhaps impossible to connect with any joy. In these times of uncertainty, it makes sense that we would be reaching out for support, reevaluating what is important and talking through ideas on how to move forward.

As such, I work with children, adults, and couples to help them set and achieve manageable, and personally meaningful goals.
Relationships are a fact of life. We all live in relation to each other as spouses, children, parents & friends. Even in the best of these relationships, inevitably, problems occur. Often, we are able to resolve problems on our own. However, there are times when the help of an expert in relationships, such as a Marriage and Family Therapist, is needed to: *improve communications, *increase understanding in relationships, *resolve conflicts, *improve parenting skills,*relieve stress, depression, anxiety,*strengthen the bonds of relationships & gain a better understanding of one another.

The interface between contemporary psychology and the wisdom of contemplative practice spirituality is central to my work with individuals and couples and to my general approach to therapy. With the use of MINDFULNESS based therapy and a non-judgmental and non-pathological approach I create a healing and supportive environment were growth and transformation can take place through our in depth process of exploration. From this general holistic and contemplative perspective I address a variety of issues of emotional, existential and relational nature with both individuals and couples and would be very happy to help you as well!

Congratulations on taking the first step towards wellness! My practice is two-fold: I have a lot of experience working with couples in conflict and I also work with individuals who suffer from depression and PTSD. I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is most helpful in collaboration. I enjoy working with both couples and individuals to face life transitions and difficulties with a direct and empathetic approach.

Whether working with individuals, couples or families, I use an intergenerational lens focused on how long-held family stories can be sources of wisdom and strength as well as sources of pain and suffering.
Hello! My name is Tawny Holt and my pronouns are she/her. My approach is warm, relational, curious, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused. I'm particularly passionate about working with parents. As a parent, are you feeling overwhelmed? Isolated? Disconnected from your former identity? I'm a parent myself and I get it. I help parents and co-parents reconnect to their internal wisdom, fill their cups, and break the cycles they want to be free from so they can parent in alignment with their values with more gentleness toward themselves and their children. I also welcome couples, families, and individuals into my practice.

I also work with couples who fight or argue a lot and want to improve their relationships.
Most people go through times in life of feeling emotional pain and wishing they could feel better. They may also want to have more control over their emotions, function at a higher level, and have more satisfying relationships. I work with people who are feeling this way, applying the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model which entails teaching clients skills for managing painful emotions. DBT is effective for treating anxiety, depression, anger, relationship problems, trauma, and substance abuse. I offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents, and I co-facilitate DBT groups.

The most important journey you may make in your life is the journey of building an honest and compassionate relationship with yourself. From shame, pride, trauma, and introjected "shoulds" there are so many reasons that we often operate from a partial and compassionless understanding of ourselves. These blind spots can cause us anxiety, depression, addictions and a multitude of other symptoms that we mistake to be "who we are". I have faith in the human condition and the ability our heal into our own fullness. Therapy is the place to make this journey.

With couples I often use Emotionally Focused Therapy, The Gottman Method, and Imago Relationship Therapy.
At some point we all struggle to adjustment to life's changes; it's normal to feel stuck and I believe people have what it takes to adjust. For the past 20 years, I have been working with children and teens who are struggling to balance the demands of school and their social life. I integrate parents in my work as much as possible. I also work with adults and Couples often come to me for help in distress and are confused about how or why their relationship has derailed. I am dedicated to helping people build stronger; more intimate relationships and I use several modalities when attempting to help couples in distress.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
