I empower people to take back control of their lives when dealing with seemingly insurmountable problems that most clinicians just throw drugs at. My goals are to help guide you through a process of self-discovery and then active participation in changing your life.

I help people work through pain, overcome bad patterns, & resolve their problems in healthy, resilient ways.
EMDR, ADULTS, PREMARITAL, COLLEGE STUDENTS, SENIORS. If you’re exhausted from trying to keep it together, feel like you just can’t anymore, or feel burdened by crushing emotions, I’d love to help you not only survive this difficult chapter but grow through it too. When you're overwhelmed by times of stress, heartache or unexpected change getting support is a powerful step in the right direction. I hope you’ll take that next step with me. Giving teens and adults a safe, supportive environment where they can do the inner work needed to heal and grow from their most distressing experiences and limiting beliefs is my goal.

With this experience, I can assist you in learning more about your illness and how to enhance your overall well-being.
If you are experiencing health issues that affect your physical and mental well-being, taking a functional medicine and functional nutrition approach may be beneficial to you. What is functional medicine/nutrition? This is learning how food, stress, environmental toxins, and genetics, play a role in your overall health and well-being. When you work with me, you will learn how to identify which foods work for your body, learn how to use food as medicine, and understand how specific foods can cause your symptoms and lead to disease. At the same time, you will also work on stress management, sleep hygiene, exercise tips, and more.

If you are having a difficult time dealing and would like to speak to someone to clarify your thoughts or figure out what to do next, it might be a good time to reach out for therapy. A lot of people feel isolated with their problems and have nobody to turn to about what really matters to them. You may feel like your past is not letting you have any peace and looking to move forward. Life is difficult and learning how to cope with the ups and downs is important, especially if you have been diagnosed with a mental illness like depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. or have suffered a loss or setback in your personal life.

Why consider counseling? Because nearly everyone at some time in their life is confronted with seemingly unresolvable personal or relationship issues, significant life changes like premarital needs, or death and crtical illness of a loved one. I am very experienced in counseling persons dealing with mood, anxiety and health related concerns. I believe in counseling as a process where clients are assisted in understanding and disarming feelings that "make no sense" and would be happy to help my clients explore the truth behind the troubling issues in a safe and confidential environment.

I help highly motivated, successful, but struggling clients looking for a deeper resolution to their pain, anxiety, and distraction.
Everyone thinks you have it all together, but you feel like one slip and it will all fall apart. You have worked so hard for the amazing life you have and yet, the peace you “should” feel seems just out of reach. Perhaps the past seems to sneak up on you, and despite your best efforts, you’re more anxious, not less. Peace has eluded you and the stress of being successful and “having it all” hasn’t allowed time for the growth and change that you long for. If you want to find lasting balance amidst the chaos, I am here to help. With insightful exploration and practical strategies, I can help you find a better way forward.

My most important job is to listen, very carefully, to what your pain is saying.
Chances are that you came to my profile because you are struggling or hurting in some way and you truly desire to find the exact right person to assist you in getting some relief. I deeply believe you are not sick trying to get well but instead hurt trying to heal. Therapy is such a vulnerable, personal experience and it can be difficult determining which therapist is the right therapist for your specific needs by just looking at a profile. It is my honor to assist each unique human being on their very individualized path as I am just as passionate today as 37 years ago. You might be able to do alone but you don’t have to. Anymore.

Some common areas I work with clients on include anxiety, stress management, depression, parenting, self-esteem, chronic illness, and life changes.
Hi, I’m Jennifer. I am a licensed clinician and co-owner of Waves of Clarity Counseling. Let’s face it, sometimes we all need a little extra support and a safe space to be able to process the things that are impacting us most. As a therapist, my goal is to make sure you feel supported, validated, and heard during sessions. I know taking this step to work through life's stressors is not an easy one; I want to partner with you, as you work through those challenges that are bringing you to therapy.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
