What makes people stronger when they they have faced so much adversity? I started my career focused on how to help people become more resilient, and along the way I have learned so much, not just about overcoming obstacles, but also about building up strengths.

I am a licensed masters level clinical social worker with over 29 years experience providing mental health treatment to children and adults. I have extensive experience treating a multitude of issues, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, relationship conflicts, family issues and mood disorders. I use a variety of approaches, depending on individual needs, to help my clients achieve their goals.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and R.N. in private practice in Georgia and Michigan. My doctoral dissertation researched grief and loss issues. I worked as a psychologist in MI for 24 years and in 2013 moved to GA and established a private practice. For over 2 decades I have presented workshops and seminars nationally at numerous professional organizations with a specialty in the field of dying, grief, and loss. I was widowed at 46, and have co-authored 5 books on grief and 1 on dying. I see clients online or in-person for a variety of counseling needs and co-facilitate educational grief groups (including GriefShare).

Clinically, I have worked in the Community Mental Health system and in a private practice prior to opening my own private practice. I am trained in 10+ evidenced-based practices like Cognitive Behavior therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy, used in treating PTSD, the Nurturing Parent Program (NPP), and Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). My passion is to help others to live life as the best version of themselves, regardless of their age or presenting issues. I believe that each of us is just one person away from reaching that goal of a happy life, and if I can be that for you then it is a win for us both.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and life coach practicing in Elk Rapids, MI. I was previously practicing in Bloomfield Hills Mi for 6 years before moving to the Traverse City area in 2019. I have experience as an Infant Mental Health Specialist, Child and Adolescent Therapist and Family Therapist. I received my BA from University of Arkansas in Social Work and Criminal Justice and a MSW from University of Michigan in Therapeutic Practice and Community Organizing. Gloria Waugh is a Licensed Professional Counselor who received her undergraduate degree in Family Life Education from Spring Arbor University and her Master of Arts in Counseling from Spring Arbor University. She began her career working as an outpatient clinician treating children, teens, adults and families with diverse diagnosis including severe and persistent mental illnesses, mood disorders, bi-polar, schizophrenia, depression, anger, anxiety, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorders, chronic pain, PMDD, personality disorders and co-occurring disorders.

Prior to working at Michigan Psychological Care, I worked for several years at St. Vincent Catholic Charities Children's Home in Lansing, MI as a residential therapist providing individual, group, and family therapy. I have been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model to help further address incidents of trauma in children and adolescents. Outside the office I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also like to spend time reading, watching movies, painting or drawing, and being outside.

I am a multi-degreed licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) in Michigan. The goal is to assist my clients in working through issues that negatively affect them in their daily lives. I work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to their relationships or family. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement afterward.
