My passion is working with children, adolescents, adults, ​and couples to meet the challenges they may be experiencing such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, anger management, addiction, self-esteem issues or perhaps spiritual emptiness. One of my goals is to shed light on the issues that you are currently experiencing, noticing the internal roots of conflict, and finding ways to make meaningful and purposeful shifts in your life. My treatment approach is integrative, and following an assessment of the individual needs of my client determines which modalities I utilize.

I utilize an existential-humanistic approach which goes beyond symptom reduction and helps with understanding and developing new ways to experience self, others, and the world. This approach encourages introspection, self-reflection, and assists an individual with increasing self-awareness, self-knowledge, and opportunities for choice where they once felt frustrated, stuck, and hopeless.

I work with clients in a wide variety of problem areas including sex and intimacy (either couples or individual therapy), anxiety and fear, weight and self-esteem, depression and bipolar, and trauma (sexual;combat), among others. My clients find me to be warm and caring, with a tendency to bring in humor. We work together to create achievable goals and take active steps to reach them. I have been working with kids, teens, and families for over ten years. Whether it has been in a children’s hospital, an intensive program, or a small community practice, I have continued to learn and grow alongside my patients. I believe that trust, compassion and a sense of humor allow for a strong therapeutic relationship. My philosophy is that all of us - kids, parents, and people - do well when we are able to do well.

Dr. Monica Garcia is a Psychologist in Wisconsin practicing in schools for the past 25 years. She has also taught in higher education for approximately 11 years. Dr. Garcia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Alverno College, a Master of Science in Educational Psychology and Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Education from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an additional Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction administrators license from Silver Lake College.

I work with adults and adolescents using an integrative framework in order to meet your individual needs. As long as you are motivated to make positive changes in your life, I'm here to help you through it. While, I am able to help you through a variety of difficulties, there are 3 primary groups that I specialize in working with. First, I enjoy working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly around support with identity exploration or gender affirming care. I know the importance of having someone knowledgeable about some of the specific issues that this community faces and am available to talk about any difficulties.

I work with autistic individuals and their families as well families who are concerned their child may have autism. Our Illinois location specializes in early diagnostic evaluations for children 14 months to 5 years. In Madison, WI we support diagnostic services for children 14 months to 16 years. Individual, group, and family mental health services in both locations span up to 26 years of age.

For over 15 years, I have had the privilege of counseling people of all ages and backgrounds that have struggled with anxiety, depression, marital conflict, family issues and academic concerns. Over the past five years, I have also started working with clients that have alcohol and drug related problems. Everyone is so unique. Therefore, my therapeutic approach is a nonjudgmental positive regard and it is tailored to fit the individual, couple and/or family. It has been very rewarding to watch so many clients make better choices and live a more full, enriched life. Every day is a new beginning!
