Trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship problems can amplify everyday stress.
I want you to imagine leaving your home in the morning, navigating the busy roads to work. You’re tired, barely focused and dreading the day ahead. You pull into the parking lot of your employer, taking a deep breath. You grab your work things and walk towards the office. You stop, frozen in the sea of mental waves, a thousand thoughts crashing into one another, unable to organize them. Everything stops for a moment, a beacon of clarity forms in the distance and you’re able to hear one calm thought. You ask yourself “am I on the right path?”

Are you feeling stuck in your relationship & unsure of what to do? Have you been hurt by infidelity, or feel like you and your partner are growing apart? Are you feeling overwhelmed, alone, lost or broken? Are worries constantly running through your head & you just can’t “turn it off”? Life is full of difficult transitions. Relationships end, children leave the nest, jobs are lost, important people in our lives pass away. It can leave you with just enough energy to put on a brave face and “fake” it through the day. But what if life could be different?

Maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself or others can be hard and confusing and yet so important.
Individuals who call me say they are exhausted, discouraged, and dissatisfied with life. Old thoughts and behaviors continue to negatively impact who they are, what they want to accomplish, and their relationships. They have lost the meaning and magic of life. Couples who call me say they've drifted apart, feel more like roommates, and affection has stopped. Ineffective patterns of communication prevent them from reaching to each other. The magic in their relationship has died and the dance has ended. Healthy relationships, whether with yourself or others, are key to a happy, satisfying, life and keeping the magic going.

Congratulations on taking that first step towards building the life you want! Whether it is depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction or any number of the countless things that keep us from living our best lives, searching for someone to help partner with you on that journey towards healing is an important first step. I know it can be overwhelming to find a provider; there are so many choices, and if you have never been in counseling before, you don't know what to expect, what to ask, or even what to look for to help you find that person that can help you become "you" again. Relax...you're here...and that's an awesome start!

My areas of focus include: relationship issues such as communication, infidelity, trust, sexuality and building healthy relationships, child and adolescent issues, issues of self-esteem, trauma, and insight.
There are many reasons why you may have decided to look for a therapist. Maybe you are hitting a tough spot in you life, your relationships are struggling, you have decided to address traumatic experiences, or you are just not sure where you want to be in life. In my practice, I work with individuals, couples and families facing these and many other concerns. I regard therapy as a collaboration; not a one-size-fits-all formula. I work to provide space for your unique experience and seek to find what works for you.

I help couples in conflict and those who want to develop their relationship into a stronger alliance. Conflict affects us all in many ways. Mostly, I work with individuals, couples and groups to understand the impact of confusion, upset and misunderstanding on our relationships. Sometimes depression and anxiety are overwhelming and that causes lots of problems in our ability to make our life work. I hear from clients that they felt better after our session because they were able to talk through a problem and understand the situation better.

I have completed a series of trainings under the Gottman Method and incorporate their theoretical modalities into my work with couples to assist with emotional disconnect, managing conflict, and improving the shared meaning within the relationship.
I believe individuals who want to overcome mental health struggles CAN make a change! There is always trial and error, and steps forward and back, but when the client and the therapist are committed to the process, the results can transform lives. Regardless of the struggle they're facing, I try to be honest and open with my clients and to foster an environment in which they feel safe to be open as well. Maintaining open communication and building trust helps ensure the client's therapeutic needs are being met.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
