Hello, my name is Violet. I work with individuals, couples and families who may be struggling with something that they need to change, or who just need to engage in thinking differently about a problem. I am not here to judge anyone, I practice from the perspective that we all deal with things the best that we can, and when we learn better strategies, we do better. Let me help you to learn better strategies.

I believe no one lives in a vacuum. That's why I'll be asking about you and your relationships with family and friends. Your children don't live in a vacuum, either. In working with them, you'll be included in parts or all of their sessions. My practice is called the Rio Rancho Family Counseling Center. When you're seeing me alone or as a couple, you determine when and what problems to talk about and how fast and how deep we go. I draw on several methods of therapy because my practice is patient oriented and patient directed.

The purpose of counseling and psychotherapy is to help individuals embrace healthy life choices through self-understanding and self-awareness. Counseling helps clients/patients identify the causes of stress and to find meaningful and fulling remedies for their life situations, in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

I am a dedicated clinician and I strive to create a strong, supportive space for clients who are interested in their inner work. I have worked with clients in severe emotional distress, and also with clients who just feel a need to "find a new path forward". Some of my clients come for brief intensive counseling during a crisis while others to do longer-term work on a quest for self-understanding and freedom from past painful experiences. Couples counseling is also part of my practice. I have extensive psychoanalytic training as well as experience in short-term modalities.

I specialize in working with families who are experiencing addiction issues, dual diagnosis (mental health and addiction), co-occurring disorders, and other problems that are often experienced within a family. Healthy coping skills are learned, we are not born with them! My background includes adults and adolescents; court ordered treatment, Severally Emotionally Disturbed youth and clients who have been in a residential setting. As a trauma specialist, I work with co-dependency issues, sexual assault, domestic violence, etc.

I am not the expert in your life, you are. I am here to help you figure things out. I have worked with trauma, sexual abuse, substance abuse, and family issues. I enjoy working with teens, individuals, couples and families. I work from a family systems perspective so I believe working on the family is important. I use the modality that best suits the client which may include inner child work, mindfulness, processing trauma, and relapse prevention.
