I can add neurofeedback, EMDR and referrals to your results.
Therapy is the experience of acceptance, directness and expert, practical knowledge to help us navigate changes and setbacks. Modern life and biology can trigger sadness, anxiety, panic, social phobia, eating/health issues, and unwanted behaviors. Some people experience sexual, emotional, psychological, spiritual and religious abuse. Abuse can feel like being controlled, brainwashed, indoctrinated and like being a psychological hostage. Addressing confusing situations and finding healing are part of the purposes of therapy.

Forty years of practice have taught me that we humans pretty much learn to be who we are. With a tip of my hat to my alma mater, the University of Minnesota, for setting me on the right track, I practice what is now known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in which we identify and challenge old, dysfunctional habits by integrating our emotions, thoughts and behaviors while learning new ways of coping with our issues. It is exciting and fulfilling to share in my clients' / patients' journeys from guilt, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma or dysfunction to living proactively, mindfully, and joyfully.

Counseling for children, teens and adults who are seeking support to improve social and emotional wellbeing and alleviate distress. As an LCSW, I work with individuals in finding their own inner expert. I believe that people intrinsically have the strengths to lead happy and productive lives but are sometimes unable to leverage those internal resources when faced with adversities such as loss, trauma, depression or anxiety. I work with people as they understand their own struggles to help them address past issues that contribute to their present mindset and develop strategies using their internal resources.

Life is challenging. Even when we are doing our best, we may still experience anxiety, depression, stress, moodiness, and difficulties in our relationships. Some of those feelings originate from experiences we remember clearly and want to understand and organize; other feelings seem to come from nowhere and despite our best efforts, interfere with our feeling better and doing the things we want to do.

Do your friends tell you that you need to cut down the amount you drink, or use? Often awake when you'll be asleep? Don't have enough energy to even eat sometimes? Are you often lonely and stressed? Are you often angry? Do you see or hear things other people don't see or hear? I can help you. My clinical style is to meet you where you're, understand your strengths, needs, weaknesses, stuck points and treat you considering the mind, body and spirit (Holistic). ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
