I am a trauma specialist, with extensive training and experience helping people find healing after suffering. Whether you have been through childhood trauma, or the traumas that life can bring over time (illness, death, assault, among many others), you have come to the right place. At its heart, trauma disrupts connections. It disrupts connections in relationships, connections between thoughts, between our emotions, between body signals, and it disrupts our connection to self. Our work together will strive to reconstitute these links.

I tend to focus on life transitions, relationships, grief and loss, exploring sexuality and gender, loneliness, and complex trauma.
When we feel othered, alone, or hopeless — it's challenging to ask for help. Talking to a therapist can help you feel like yourself again. I help my clients discover the root of their concerns through storytelling, reflecting on their values and desires, and understanding in what ways they’ve adapted to being in the world. Together, we create a space that feels warm, safe, and healing — and ultimately restores a sense of joy, play, and hope. We’ll learn to be curious about emotional patterns, how to communicate effectively, and develop tools to slow down when life inevitably gets overwhelming.

I've been witness to what trauma does to the mental and physical health of the a person, and at the same time have learned valuable lessons about the dignity of the human spirit.
I've treated children, adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric hospitals since 1994 while maintaining a private practice since 1996. In addition to a graduate degree in clinical psychology, I have had psychoanalytic training, along with a recent certification in global mental health. These have provided me with a unique perspective and skills that allow me to engage with patients in a collaborative relationship with the goal of exploring alternative solutions to difficulties that have persisted in the patient's life.

I work relationally and experientially, from an attachment-based, emotion-focused and trauma-informed lens, which supports the development of safety and connection in the space I share with clients.
You know that feeling of disconnection between your head and your heart? When you're struggling and know that the feedback you're getting from trusted loved ones is logical, but for some reason it just isn't making you feel better? If you could just "think" or "do" your way out of pain, you probably wouldn't be here. Emotions always show up for good reason - even when they don't seem to fit. God created the spectrum of emotions to be felt, seen, heard, and understood. When we don't have a safe place to explore them, they get ignored, buried, stuck, and confusing, and they can no longer do their job. This creates disconnection.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NY currently providing video psychotherapy sessions. I see teens, adults, and couples who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, relationship and family issues, academic stressors, and identity development. I approach psychotherapy holistically, integrating models such as Internal Family Systems Theory, The Ackerman Relational Approach, and Trauma Theory. Working in an environment focused on social justice, it is important to me to be able to help clients navigate issues related to experiences of racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and sexism.

As such, I treat trauma, anxiety, grief, negative self-image, and a wide range of challenges that show up in the form of emotional suffering.
Our brains are programmed to avoid pain at all costs so when we’re hurting emotionally – or feeling any negative emotion really - we naturally try to escape the discomfort. We use many strategies to avoid emotional pain – numbing with food or substances, over-investing in work, procrastinating, isolating... Our escape strategies are endless and short term, they can help us feel a little better. The problem is that these strategies are not very sustainable; over time they drain our lives and vitality.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
