I am an Internal Family Systems therapist (Level 1 Trained), and I emphasize somatic techniques in this approach to help you find healing.
Boundaries create connection, and connection is at the heart of healing. Join me in a brave space where you can build your skills to navigate the challenges of relating, and figure out how you want to be in relationships and step into your potential. I am most passionate about working with adults who want to build self-acceptance, heal traumatic stress, and establish a foundation for healthy relationships. I am sex-positive and passionate about providing affirming care to the LGBTQ+ and ethically non-monogamous communities, and hope to provide a shared understanding of what it is like to live with these identities.

I use a foundation of narrative and somatic awareness to journey with you as we explore and rewrite your stories into tales of courage, compassion, agency, and fulfillment.
Our worldviews are made up of stories: about ourselves, others, the ways we engage with people, and the ways we move through the world. I'm fascinated by the mutual influence of individual perspective and shared experience, as well as the ways societal norms both limit and support individuals and relationships. How are you influencing and being influenced by others? What aspects of your story do you wish were different? How do you want to be known, and move through the world? "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer! Let's explore and see what we discover.

Waitlist for new clients
My approach incorporates IFS, somatic, psychodynamic, existential and person centered methods.
It takes courage to seek help when you are suffering. Taking steps to improve the quality of your life is one of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself. I believe it is the job of a therapist to help people on their journey and that the therapeutic relationship is an essential part of this process. The therapist must create an environment of trust where it feels safe to explore thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental, supportive manner. In this kind of atmosphere, we can begin the work to identify strengths and diminish self-defeating thinking and behavior so that you can move forward with your life.

It's important to me that my clients feel welcome and safe enough to show up exactly as they are. I do my best to attend to my clients in a fully present and available way so that I can deeply witness, listen, and respond with clarity, non-judgment, and compassion. I believe that psychotherapy can be a powerful vehicle for self-discovery, self-acceptance, and transformation. I draw on my own experiences of joy and suffering to be with my clients in a human way. (I am currently only working with individual adults - no couples work at this time)

Hello hello! I work either in-person w/nature in local parks or virtually via zoom! If we walk or sit together, we'll work following your lead with gentle nudges into the abyss (metaphorically, unless you enjoy muddy!), seeing through blinders, and remembering accomplishments. As for me? I'm a human reclaiming my humanity. I'm recovering from the dominating social order of straight, cis-white men steeped in racism, sexism, patriarchy, homophobia, colonialism, ableism and all the oppressions dreaming of an equitable and environmentally friendly society. (deeply & vaguely spiritual, not religious).

I help stressed, perfectionistic students and professionals learn how to relax. Too much self-control, or overcontrol, makes it hard to enjoy life and connect meaningfully with others. It’s exhausting to feel like you’re always ‘on’, performing, or wearing a mask. Overcontrol can lead to problems like anxiety, depression, disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and intimacy avoidance. You don’t have to struggle alone–I’ve been a therapist working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and other overcontrolled folks for over 10 years. Together, we can get you unstuck and harness your self-control as a strength.

Asking for help is hard, and it’s when we feel heard, seen, and understood, that healing and growth are most accessible. I am here to hold space for you, or you and your partner(s), to explore and challenge yourself in pursuit of greater truth and authenticity. By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working through these feelings can propel you forward. Allow me to help.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
