I am passionate about providing trauma-focused, culturally competent mental health care to clients of all identities. I specialize in treating trauma, PTSD/complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, addiction and first responder trauma. I specialize in treating victims of sexual, physical, emotional and psychological abuse, family members and loved ones of those impacted by addiction, PTSD, dissociative disorders and anxiety related disorders.
My clients would describe me as competent, easy to talk to and compassionate. I am passionate about creating an environment where you can feel safe and heard. Carl Rogers once said, “We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.” I believe that therapeutic work is most helpful when you can sense that you are working with a therapist who genuinely cares and will listen. From that foundation, there will also be space for you to reflect and receive insight that will aid in meeting your goals.

I work with issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, recovery, family, couples, divorce, pre-marital counseling, and existential issues.
We all struggle in life but sometimes no matter how hard we try, we don’t seem to be able to get out of it on our own. Are you looking for someone who will center on what your needs are? Do you want to find out about how therapy can improve your quality of life? Then give me a call. I have over twenty years of experience, and I specialize in people reduce the distress and be happier. I have been a therapist abroad as well as in the US so I know how adaptation to change can be challenging.

If you are looking for a collaborative therapist who believes each of us holds our own answers, then I would be honored to meet you! Let’s be transparent here – I am NOT a wizard, therapy is NOT a “one session & you are fixed” process, & you ARE in charge of your life! Will it be easy? Probably not... Will it be quick? Probably not... Will you figure some things out? You bet! I will be your ally, advocate, cheerleader, support, and objective voice. I will use my skills to help you find what you are seeking.

Trying to understand what life is about can be confusing and challenging. Sometimes, right when you begin to understand life, boom! Life throws another curve ball your direction. Those curve balls can really hinder you from fully enjoying your life. Seeking guidance can help you gain strength and learn new strategies for tackling such situations.

I believe symptoms carry messages to us from deep within, much like dreams do. Symptoms and problems can be made very useful, if you know how to look and listen. My job is to help you read and make sense of what ails you. Psychotherapy with me is about learning your way around your own psyche. It's for becoming as fully yourself as possible. It's for cultivating soul. My hope is to offer direction and stability in an increasingly disorienting world. I hope working together we can renew your faith in life having meaning and purpose.

While working with couples and families, I often see this pattern of listening to respond or proclaiming an assumption before truly hearing their loved one. It’s an unfortunate habit that can create insecurity, fear, anxiety, and distrust in relationships. Sometimes, slowing down and paying closer attention to the pattern of communication will help us catch these fears, concerns, insecurities or misunderstandings. Perhaps you’re feeling tired, frustrated, judged, or worst of all, alone.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
