I believe our beliefs, values, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are formed based on the experiences we have in the family, society, religion, and other systems encountered throughout life.
Therapy should be a comfortable and safe place for you to explore and learn about yourself while practicing to take control of your world. Everyone has different experiences and your therapy should be guided by how you see the world and what you want in your life. I work with individuals, couples, parents, and families around issues related to depression, anxiety, child & adolescent behavior problems, relationships, and parenting. My mission is to help clients alleviate emotional pain, improve relationships, and to reach their highest potential based on their own values, beliefs, and dreams.

My specialty areas include trauma, depression, anxiety, women in transition, and family transitions (divorce, blended families, co-parenting in high conflict cases, adoption, etc).

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I believe firmly in my clients' natural desire and ability to achieve health and wellness in their lives. I believe in the importance of addressing all aspects of a person's wellbeing: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social. I take a client-centered approach, partnering with my clients to work together toward realistic and achievable goals.

Everyone goes through hardships in their lives, and many face challenges that require some outside support and aid. While friends and family are a great resource, some parts of life are too personal or overwhelming to share with these people. Reaching out for help can be intimidating and I strive to provide a safe and supportive space that allows you to attain the support and aid you need.

I work with relational psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, and IFS (Internal Family Systems).
My goal is to help open to transformation through awareness. It is normal that there are times in life when things get in the way of feeling or doing your best, or even feeling like yourself. Old problems are like toxic waste buried in the backyard. You can lay sod over it, but it’s still there and leaks out at unpredictable times. Sometimes people know where they are stuck, and sometimes not- we'll just start where you are. Anxiety, depression, substance abuse, old trauma, stuck patterns in relationships, feeling dissatisfaction with work and life are all worthy of our attention and work.

I specialize in the treatment of trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, adjustment to change, recovery from abuse, attachment related issues and family systems.
Change, loss and trauma generate stress. Persistent stress can lead to the development of negative thoughts about oneself and the world. Unresolved stress is linked to disease, disturbance in behavior and emotions and diminished well-being. Through therapy one can identify personal strengths, enhance awareness, and create opportunity for change, growth and healing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
