Life can feel challenging at times, leaving you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You may be experiencing feelings of sadness, worry, anger, shame, fear, grief or despair. Struggling with difficult emotions can take away from living in the present moment. Instead you may find yourself dealing with anxiety, self-criticism, over-thinking, reliving painful memories and stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will slow things down so we can explore your experiences and the parts of you that may be hard to understand.

I draw on somatic, emotion focused and attachment-based therapies to broaden your understanding of your experience, help you discover your inner strength and foster self-compassion.
I see psychotherapy as a chance to come back to yourself. When faced with challenges in life we can forget our strengths, values, and sense of self. Psychotherapy offers the chance to rediscover these things and uncover more. Together we can navigate life’s challenges while building new skills and resilience to create a stronger sense of self. The therapy space that we create together is one where you can discuss anything and explore emotions, experiences, thoughts, and behaviours in a space and relationship that is safe, supportive, and dedicated to your well-being.

I mostly operate from a Psychodynamic, Relational, Attachment-Based, and Emotionally Focused approach.
People begin to heal when they feel seen, heard and understood. Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Perfectionism, and Attachment Trauma are the areas that I specialize in. My practice philosophy believes in the importance in getting to the root (the 'why') of the challenges that you are experiencing; which usually stem from childhood. I can help you to process and make connections between your history and the impact it may be having on you now; learn effective ways of coping, and shift maladaptive thoughts (i.e. strong inner critic) and behaviours (i.e procrastination) to ones that are adaptive and healthy.

I am Registered Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with children and their parents in what I believe is the hardest job – parenting! It takes real courage and sacrifice to reach out and ask for help. Whether you are looking to help yourself or your child, this process brings up many challenging feelings. My hope is to support you and/or your child to look inward and navigate these emotions and identify the feelings that have been getting in the way. Instead of avoiding these feelings, we will work together to process them with the ultimate goal of experiencing real change, for yourself and your relationships

***NOW ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR PHONE/VIDEO*** When our thoughts get the better of us and we feel overwhelmed, I believe there is always hope to reach the peace for which we all yearn. Through psychotherapy, I support clients struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, identity, and relationships. We all have times when we aren’t sure where we stand in our lives and with others, so I offer a safe and welcoming space where clients can express and find themselves. We are complex individuals with our own unique stories made up of our experiences. Therapy is an empowering space where we can explore these without judgment.

I have experience working with both neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals supporting them with a variety of issues including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adjustment disorders and high risk behaviours. I have been the therapist in a live-in treatment setting for dual-diagnosed youth identified as “complex care” and a therapist in both day treatment classrooms and community-based settings. Most recently, I co-developed an autism mental health counselling program at a community mental health organization in Toronto, providing neurodiversity-affirming treatment to children and youth with mental health

With over 10 years of strength and mindset coaching, I have come to see the value of combining the training of the mind and body. My approach as a therapist evolves from this, appreciating the uniqueness of each individual. As an athlete, I am fascinated by what we can do and how we can create our own story and journey. Providing culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive therapy is one of the key focuses of my practice. I have had a culturally rich upbringing that encouraged and fostered multiculturalism throughout my life and has furthered my curiosity and appreciation for diversity and inclusiveness.

Over a lifetime, we all develop defences, emotional knowings, thoughts, beliefs, behaviours, and fears that keep us from living the life we want. These may be seem like limitations. At one time they had purpose, but have lost their usefulness in the present day. My job is to help you identify these limitations and guide and support you to transform them. We embrace the parts that have value and have compassion for the parts that are holding you back. Becoming aware of unwanted fears, beliefs, and thoughts that control our lives is an important step in changing the way we do things and how we see our world.

I believe in an empathic, collaborative approach, so that you may always be part of the therapeutic process. Psychotherapy allows for a unique relationship, whereby the focus of attention is on understanding you. It provides an opportunity for openness, trust and honesty, often difficult in other interpersonal situations. It can help you to increase your resilience to life challenges and improve relationships. I use a range of therapy modalities according to the best fit for your needs and personality. Greater meaning in life can be achieved by longer term therapy, but also brief periods of therapy which are cumulative.

Why does being me feel so difficult sometimes? If you’re asking this question, perhaps it’s because what used to help you cope with life is no longer working. Breaking generational patterns is hard, yet so rewarding! This is a unique journey for women of color, and sometimes we need to be held in ways only other women of color can understand. I can help you process intergenerational trauma and unlearn harmful patterns, while holding space for the impact of colonial oppression on your mental health.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
