Abbe Horsburgh focuses primarily on helping patients with anxiety, depression, self harm, loss, and problems with relationships (of all kinds). She works mostly with individuals, but also with families, where conflicts, misunderstandings, and hurtful acts, whether past or present, often create distance and painful cutoffs. She is empathetic and patient, but also, where necessary, goal-oriented and pro-active.

I don't do 10-15 minute med checks because I don't believe you can properly prescribe medication if you don't understand what is going on with the patient. History is everything in psychiatry and studies consistently show that therapy plus medication works better than either one alone. I use a biopsychosocial approach and treat the whole patient, and coordinate care with other providers. I also do home visits for homebound patients on Mondays and Fridays. I am a psychotherapist: more specifically, a psychologist and a psychoanalyst. I have seen hundreds and hundreds of patients over the course of my forty plus year career. Every one of them has a story to tell, a story that despite its often gut-wrentching pain is beautiful, both in its uniqueness and its complexity. Our team works with children through adults, and offers services in English, Spanish and French. Our Educational testing services specialize in academic assessment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other Learning Disabilities. Memory testing services are offered in both English and Spanish, and are designed to evaluate people for potential diagnoses of dementia, brain injury, or other cognitive disorders. We evaluate individuals who have concern regarding the possibility of Alzheimer's disease.

This summer marks 35 years that I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with children and families in Boca Raton and the surrounding areas. Having grown up in Boston and trained at Boston University and Massachusetts General Hospital I need to disclose I am still a Red Sox fan. My expertise lies in rendering therapy to children and families and consulting with parents to help them make sense of and deal with the myriad of challenges that our children present. I do not conduct conduct Psychological/Educational Evaluations so if necessary I will refer families to our local experts.
