Helen J Shoemaker, Marriage & Family Therapist in Fremont

Marriage & Family Therapist, PhD, MS, MA, LMFT
“I believe successful therapy relies on the professional therapist's core knowledge and listening skills to pay attention to the client's story with a caring therapeutic ear. I listen well, draw from theory and practical experience to understand what my client is experiencing. I also consider what social pressures or situations impact your thinking/emotional states and what therapeutic approach might be most helpful. I take into account the client's unique human diversity, level of personal development, consciousness and, if applicable, spirituality. Together, we select the most desired and achievable goals as the therapeutic focus of our time together.

Blair Kilpatrick, Psychologist in Fremont
“After more than two decades as a psychologist, I know one thing for certain: the foundation of therapy is a relationship built on trust, openness, and mutual respect. I see myself as a guide and partner in the change process. I have experience treating the full range of adult problems and have always worked with a culturally diverse population. I have particular interest in creativity, adult development throughout the life cycle, and women's issues. I have specialized training in addictions, codependence, and eating disorders. My therapeutic orientation is broadly psychodynamic, but I incorporate more direct interventions when needed, including EMDR.

Renee K. Miller, Marriage & Family Therapist in Fremont
“My experience includes 8 years of counseling individuals, couples and children and 3 years supervising and teaching intern graduate students. The essence of my counseling approach is that each person has access to health and well being regardless of what is currently being experienced. I help clients regain that innate health through deep listening and non-judgmental feedback. I work deeply with current thoughts, beliefs and feelings about one's self to uncover deep seated self-judgment that blocks happiness. Anxiety, depression and unhappiness transform into greater peace and understanding.

“A therapy relationship that is working well supports your curiosity about yourself, openness to possibilities, and capacity to transform vulnerabilities into areas of strength and growth. My approach to therapy involves using respectful, empathic listening to create a safe place where you can bring difficult and painful feelings and life situations - a place where you don't have to be alone with them. Through our work together, you experience yourself differently. In therapy, you can try out new ways of being who you are, and when you're ready, you can bring these into the rest of your life.

Don't know what it is you really want to do? Ever reacted to a situation in a way that surprised yourself? Ever thought to yourself, "That wasn't me"? Ever get angry when you don't want to? Feel depressed when you absolutely HATE feeling that way? Have people in your life you used to love and now you just don't get at all?

Wayne Lowe, Psychologist in Fremont
“I help spiritually committed men and women who have lost passion and purpose to become more receptive to love and to life. I believe psychotherapy is more than reducing a person's symptoms ... more than restoring a person's loss of functioning. Psychotherapy is also about creating meaning. In therapy we speak of disappointment and loss, of love and beauty and hope, of evil, of death, and of God. And, in therapy we enhance our ability to feel and to experience, to become more resilient and more present, and to become more free and more whole.
