I also volunteer with survivors of gun violence who are grieving and/or coping with trauma.
I grew up in Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work. I began my career in a county jail mental health unit, where I became proficient in crisis intervention, assessments, and group therapy. While there, I not only logged needed clinical hours, but also studied for and passed the licensing exam for the State of Florida to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Much of my work is with individuals experiencing symptoms of anxiety, past and present trauma, conflict resolution, sexual and physical abuse, and self-esteem issues.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem? Struggling with experiences that have you "stuck" and seem to be keeping you from happy and healthy living? Are you ready to make changes that can help you overcome obstacles and move forward towards your life goals? Finding solutions can often be overwhelming, but the good news is you don't have to figure it alone. Making life changes requires a supportive and safe therapeutic environment, essential for meeting your specific needs and becoming a happier, healthier, functioning you. This is the first step in making that possible and I welcome you!

Christians often struggle with depression, anxiety, addictions or other issues. These struggles can led you to feel as if you are defective or damaged beyond God's ability to repair. This couldn't be further from the truth. Nothing is impossible with God, and even our deepest wounds and behaviors that fill us with shame and guilt are not beyond reach for his healing. Often, Christians struggle to find a counselor who shares their world view and can understand their beliefs and needs. Sometimes, you can become discouraged by others around you who are trying to help, but don't have the training to help you obtain needed healing.

Human beings were not meant to struggle alone! It can sometimes feel like happiness and peace of mind are elusive leaving one feeling stuck, isolated, and afraid. I passionately believe people possess the power to transform their lives given a safe space to share, unconditional acceptance, and tools to enhance emotional well being. It would be my honor to provide you each of these things in your healing journey.

My areas of interest are trauma, PTSD, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other trauma-related issues; anxiety, depression, life changes, grief, traumatic grief, stress, anger, low self-esteem, relational problems, underlying issues of addictions, crisis intervention, and compassion fatigue.
Many times in life, we can overcome difficult situations by learning about ourselves and how we can approach future struggles differently. However, when we exhaust our coping skills, or past events and memories become too overwhelming, we need help. I am equipped to work with clients on their specific issues, either temporary or chronic. My general approach is to address clients' wellness in the 'body, mind, and spirit dimensions to facilitate their growth and development in life.

We live in a world which is more confusing than ever, where struggle is the norm rather than the exception. Many people feel lost and are struggling to find their own way in a world which feels so out of control. I believe that everyone has within them infinite potential for joy but that sometimes things get in the way of living out that joy. I am passionate about working with people who are ready to move past these obstacles and pursue a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

You feel like the odd one out, even though you try your hardest to fit in with everyone else. You feel depressed or anxious and try to suppress it, pretending everything is fine while you are suffering. No matter how many people you talk to, you just can't seem to make a genuine connection. You may have many friends but still feel emotionally lonely. Despite your best efforts, you cannot form meaningful relationships with other people. You find it impossible to trust others enough to allow yourself to be vulnerable. Maybe you've already had years of therapy, and while some symptoms have subsided, something is still missing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
