“Everybody comes to therapy to “get better.” In most cases, at least in the short run, they do – if only from the placebo effect. But when one’s symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD are a consequence of psychological trauma, talk therapy - which IS helpful for problem-solving, gaining new perspectives, sorting out relationship difficulties, etc. - rarely resolves them. Fortunately, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), both research and my own long experience with it show, DOES help resolve symptoms resulting from trauma – and often rapidly. After significant trauma work, people not infrequently report the experience has been life-changing.

“Everyone faces some bumps on the road of life. Often times it is helpful to have someone besides friends or family to help fix the pot holes or navigate a new road. I believe one of the most important things when starting counseling is having a good connection with your therapist. One of my strengths is creating that alliance through a non-judgmental attitude, being open minded, using humor, and basically keeping it real. My philosophy is to create a supportive, safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; while challenging you to grow, learn, and heal old wounds.
