I help my clients by helping them to understand themselves better. In the process, they are able to find ways to be happier, more effective, and better able to solve their problems. I am comfortable with a number of approaches to therapy. Regardless of the specific approach, I help by providing keys to self-knowledge, warmth, respect, and honesty. I'm able to listen to things that are hard to talk about, tell you things that are hard to hear, and build hope in the process.

Ideally, I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and experiences. I like to follow a team approach where we work together to help you become the best version of you! I appreciate feedback and insight into your unique situation and input on what is helpful/not helpful in the therapy approach. I love working from a solution and client centered approach where we can identify common goals and work together to help you meet them. Ideally, my clients are those who want to become the best version of themselves, who want to understand themselves more holistically for their own well-being and are willing to do the work to get there.

You are likely seeking therapy because of distress and confusion around difficult emotional experiences that you are struggling to understand and resolve. This distress and confusion can result in anxiety, relationship issues and depression. Through our work together, we can help resolve these struggles by building an understanding of where they come from and how to respond to them.

Research indicates that the “goodness of fit” of a therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors that can influence the success of one’s therapy.
Welcome! I’m Elliot, a licensed therapist and owner of Inner Space Therapy, LLC (www.innerspacetherapyllc.com). I work primarily with young adults and adults with concerns related to anxiety, stress, self-esteem, relationships, sexuality/gender, disordered eating, substance use, spirituality, and existential concerns. I have a fondness for working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse folks, and enjoy exploring how our early relational experiences shape the way we show up with ourselves and others. I infuse my client interactions with compassion, empathy, and humor, while supporting clients as they work towards their goals.

Are you (or your family) stuck? Have you been trying the same things over and over and nothing is changing? Time to try a more direct approach! I can help. My work with clients is rooted in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is not for the faint-hearted! It is direct, evidence-based and it works. DBT has been proven useful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and for change in behavioral patterns such as self-harm, and substance abuse. At Minnetonka Counseling I lead adolescent and family DBT groups, adult DBT groups as well as advance DBT workshops for DBT graduates.

Building a positive professional relationship is the cornerstone of effective therapy.
Many of us struggle with emotions and thoughts we don't know how to cope with, and behaviors we don't feel good about - and we don't know how to change. It's difficult and frustrating to feel stuck. Working with a therapist provides support and connection as we learn to cope and promote change. Whether we wish to process our past, address challenges in our present, or to create a hopeful future - therapy is a validating and affirming space.

Hello! I am so glad you stopped by. Trauma, past relationships, life stressors and more have a way of eating away at our joy and contentment, but are also incredibly difficult to overcome alone. Sometimes we need the little extra support of someone to come alongside us and offer kindness and empathy. I would be honored to walk along this journey with you.

You are smart and resourceful, but feeling stuck. This is so deeply human. We are relational beings. Why would us needing support be any different? Therapy helps you get unstuck, takes it to the next level and challenges you.

I want to listen to your experience, and to be present for you, providing a supportive relationship as you learn skills you can use to accomplish your goals.
I am most interested in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, providing safe, respectful, and culturally responsive care. I have a strong interest in the experience of minority communities, intersectionality, trauma, grief and bereavement, building healthy relationships, and teaching skills around self-advocacy and boundaries. Therapy is a place to work through our own “stuff”, ranging from life transitions to more severe mental health struggles. Everyone benefits from having a safe space to process. As a therapist, I will walk side-by-side with you during sessions. I use a person centered approach, allowing space for empathy, as well as challenging when appropriate. I also appreciate using humor when appropriate in appointments, since laughter can be needed at times! My specialities within the therapy setting include depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.

Melissa (she/they) I’m so glad that you are here. I recognize the vulnerability it takes to engage in therapy, and I feel that it is a privilege to be able to walk alongside someone and be a witness to their growth and discovery. First and foremost, I am a relational therapist. I strongly believe that we heal in safe and healthy relationships with others. Therefore, I work hard to build relationships with each of my clients. I am strengths-based, person-centered, and trauma and attachment-informed. It is also important to me that I work to create a space that is Fat positive, Queer and Trans affirming, and Culturally responsive.

I am accepting new referrals using telehealth now. I am especially looking for patients who are concerned about compulsive sexual behavior. I really enjoy working with motivated clients who are seeking help to resolve problems in their life. Some things are simple but other things are quite complex. I enjoy working with both kinds of problems. It is very satisfying to watch a client learn, grow and change - and sometimes over years of time.

I have practiced for 39 years in Minnesota, seeing children, adults, couples and families. My practice currently is primarily with adults and couples (and adult teens) who are seeking a therapist who is collaborative, offers guidance and new perspectives, and believes the client is ultimately in charge of change. I value awareness, mindfulness and the process of living out a personal story that is based on strengths and hopefulness. Above all, I believe that if people feel respected and cared for they are capable of growth and moving through even the most difficult times.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
