ACTS Counseling, Counselor in Birmingham
“At times, in every life, it gets TOO dark, TOO lonely or just plain TOO overwhelming. You don't have to go at it alone. I can help you, and you can feel hope again. I encourage you to take the first, courageous step and give me a call. Let's see what we can do TOGETHER!

David James Palaia, Counselor in Mountain Brook
“I work from the perspective that you come to therapy knowing what issues you would like to address. It is my job to help you articulate those issues as concrete, achievable goals so that we can work together to help you meet them. I use an integrative approach which allows me to draw on many different disciplines to help confront anything you enter therapy wanting to deal with from coping with past trauma or addiction to just learning to function better with daily stress.

Kenneth J Wade, Counselor in Crestline Heights
“Most of us arrive at times when we can benefit from talking with a knowledgeable person who can listen with the objective of helping us to understand ourselves. My goal as a counselor is to help each person know and accept themselves. When I can provide that kind of counseling relationship, clients are much more likely to find their own strengths and wisdom. By listening with compassion and empathy, rather than judgment, I am more likely to help clients find greater harmony and peace in their relationships.

Lisa Phillips, Counselor in Birmingham
“I have a passion for walking alongside others as they journey through the challenges, deep disappointments and difficult seasons of life and believe deeply in the power of God to bring redemption, transformation, hope, and healing to our hearts and relationships. I view what I do as a calling and a ministry and take very seriously the opportunity to enter into others' lives and stories. We are not made to be alone in our struggles and many times need an extra set of eyes and ears to walk with us through difficult seasons and to offer helpful guidance.

Lorne Dann, Psychologist in Crestline Heights
“You can improve performance, achieve goals, and feel well, even though you may have doubts. Sometimes you may be unaware of what actually causes you to feel as anxious, depressed, indecisive, guilty, overwhelmed, or angry as you may feel. With stress arising in relationships or work, you may sometimes wonder, "Why is this happening to me again?" I collaborate with my clients to plan strategies to resolve stress so they can feel more in control and confident. I also assist with performance enhancement to foster improvement in public speaking anxiety, social anxiety, test anxiety, work inhibition/procrastination, stage jitters, blocked creativity, etc.

“Scripture tells us "where no counsel is, the people fall but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." My goal is to provide that "safe place" where you will find a listening ear. A place where you will find help, hope and healing. I prefer to think of myself as a "helper." I consider it a privilege when you allow me to become an integral part of your life as we work together to find answers to life's challenges. My office is conveniently located and I am available on evenings and Saturdays.

“We meet the person of our dreams and it is as if a magical transformation takes place. Life feels full of promise and happiness. We feel energized and whole. Then, before we know it, the relationship has changed and our partner no longer seems to be so perfect. We become desparate to get the magic back. Feeling unsatisfied, we struggle to get our partner to give us what we need and want. Criticism, anger, blame, or withdrawal replace the interactions that used to be so mutually enjoyable. Frustration settles in because the relationship is stuck, going nowhere.

Star Guides Wilderness, Treatment Facility in Birmingham
“STAR Guides is an outdoor therapeutic program designed for youth and young adults who are struggling with problematic sexual behavior. STAR Guides provides families with navigation through these challenges. Regardless of past behaviors, we believe that all youth can learn to achieve healthy sexuality. Research suggests that for many, sexual problematic behavior first begins during the adolescent years. STAR Guides helps youth to deal with these problems while they are still young. Many youth in today's modern world find themselves lost and in need of direction as they attempt to navigate the thick darkness that accompanies sexual behavior problems. Just as the ancient peoples of the world, they are in need of STAR Guides. Based in beautiful St. George, Utah the program provides teens and young adults with a high impact, life-changing therapeutic wilderness experience in the heart of the majestic red rock of the high desert of Southern Utah. STAR Guides is the ideal intervention for individuals needing to learn to manage problematic sexual behaviors that they have been unable to manage previously.

Bridging the Gap Recovery, Treatment Facility in Birmingham
“BTG uses a phased approach, with gradually increasing levels of freedom and responsibility. We do this by transitioning our clients through our different levels of care. Our clients are not just taught basic recovery tools, but must begin using them from the beginning, and increasingly so as they progress through the phases of their program. This treatment philosophy is obviously more evident in our residential program, but still plays a subtle role in our out-patient programs as well. If your client has already had some substance abuse treatment, you may be interested to know that our transitional phased approach is self-paced rather than time-dependent. We will work with other treatment providers to maintain a continuum of care based on the client's status in the different dimensions spelled out by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), and the unresolved issues in the clients' original treatment plan. Therefore, a client coming to BTG for long-term or follow-up care after completing a primary treatment program elsewhere, would more than likely start in Phase II or Phase III and likely progress through theses phases quicker than someone coming directly to BTG.
