I provide supportive, psychodynamic, interactive therapy to individuals and couples. In the process of deeply exploring underlying reasons for pain and undesired behavior, I also focus on client's strengths, some of which are often undiscovered. I tailor the treatment to the client's needs and use an eclectic approach. I prefer to work with clients who are motivated and curious. My treatment approach is not limited to talk therapy. My specialites include: EMDR, which is particularly helpful to clients who are stuck in an unwanted pattern of behavior and/or who have experienced trauma.

That's why we offer a specialized approach to healing through EMDR Therapy.
Do you suffer from anxiety and can’t stop worrying about things? Do you have intrusive thoughts about your experiences that cause difficulty sleeping and concentrating? Do you find it challenging to take the necessary steps to deal with dysfunctional relationships? Do you overexercise, or indulge in food or alcohol? Imagine how good it would feel not to constantly worry about how you will handle the next difficult situation or to be haunted by past disturbing experiences? How great it would be not to invest your energy into worrying about your relationships and instead enjoying them while staying true to who you are.

I'm a Certified EMDR Therapist and talk therapist.
Grief is an emotion often reserved for the passing of someone meaningful to us, but it’s also a normal emotion in life transitions, like job loss, a ruptured relationship, a move, an accident, the death of a pet, illness, trauma or an empty nest. These experiences may leave you grieving the loss of an idea, an expectation of what your life looked like or where it was going. Loss has a way of isolating a person from others. You may feel pressure to be doing better than you are, or to be further along an arbitrary timeline. Well-intentioned comments that don’t meet you where you are can leave you feeling even more alone.

I use a range of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness-Based, Trauma (EMDR) and Solution- Focused Therapy to help my clients work through their challenges and achieve their goals.
Therapy is a powerful tool for reflection and change. Whether working with children, teens, or adults, my approach is collaborative and goal-oriented. Sometimes we become stuck in painful or unsatisfying ways of being and need a safe space to learn about ourselves, heal, and grow. Issues I commonly work with include behavioral concerns, relationships, life transitions, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I work with clients to understand the impact of past experiences on the present, but also focus on the here-and-now in session and incorporate breathing and meditation practices to cope with everyday stress.

Are you unsure of whether therapy is the right path for you? Maybe you come from an immigrant culture with mental health stigma and wondering if therapy is going to help. Perhaps, your parents sacrificed greatly to provide this life for you, and you have feelings of guilt and shame about living your life for your family vs. yourself. You may feel a constant need to earn or prove you are worthy of being loved, sometimes resulting in high self-criticism or perfectionism. If any of these issues ring true for you, I can relate and I want to help.

I have years of experience helping clients deal with anxiety, depression and anger problems and with couples who are looking to reduce marital conflict. When new clients call me they are looking for help in coping so they can feel better and handle their life challenges more effectively. Some people are looking for understanding of what happened and how they got here, and some are more interested in learning coping skills quickly, and most want some combination of both approaches. I listen to what their individual wants and needs and plan accordingly.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
