I provide gentle, empathic care which will be personally attuned to your individual needs. I know it can be hard to begin seeing a counsellor, and I will work hard to help you feel safe and comfortable. I am interested and experienced in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, and stress management, using the latest therapeutic techniques. I have a particular interest in helping adults cope with the suffering caused by abuse. I am fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and am very familiar with cross-cultural issues and problems experienced by individuals and families with a Chinese background.

Some of the most common concerns I see in my practice include: Anxiety, Depression and other Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse, Disordered Eating, and Relationship Disconnect.
One of my clients described the process of therapy "like finally turning the lights on in a room that had been dark." It takes courage to seek counselling. It means committing to letting ourselves see, feel, and start to heal what we are no longer willing to keep dark. The joy in my work comes from helping people 'turn the lights on,' and witnessing what happens when they do.

I primarily provide individual and relationship counselling.
I support folks to reclaim, explore, and practice coming back to our bodies, feeling feelings, expanding relational possibilities, and embodying permission and more choices toward dignity, aliveness, connection, tenderness, ease, and pleasure. I approach therapeutic work from healing-centred, intersectional feminist, harm reduction, and decolonial frameworks and practices, and draw from interpersonal neurobiology, parts work, politicized somatics, and lineages of energetic medicine.

Although we can’t change our history, we can change our relationship with it.
Welcome! I appreciate your courage for landing here today. I am a second-generation Chinese Canadian immigrant and my heart lies in mental health work within the Asian and bicultural diaspora surrounding racism, intergenerational trauma, minority stress, and cultural grief. My lived experience helps me empathize with the complexities of balancing personal and collective needs, and the pain of staying silent to protect ourselves and others. I hope to empower fellow humans to reclaim their identity - to no longer negotiate their culture and values, and give themselves permission to take up space in the world.

Talking is a most basic - yet most powerful - way to unravel confusion, process distress, tolerate challenges, rediscover oneself, and navigate change. I provide talk therapy to adults in a professional and engaging space, where we work toward improved mental health and wellbeing, and improved relationships with ourselves, our work, and others. For individuals, we consider identity, the impacts of early traumas, self-reliance, and self-acceptance. For couples, we highlight self-awareness, tolerating differences, relational safety, and improved communication. Throughout, we acknowledge and actively work with anxiety and depression.

I have worked with clients with issues relating to trauma, addiction, grief and loss, parenting and relationship issues.
As a busy professional, I understand how challenging life can be as we negotiate the many roles we have in life. It helps to have someone listen to us, hear us, validate us, and offer new insights or coping and healing strategies. I have been in the counseling field for many years, and have engaged with individuals in remote communities, urban agencies, a residential center, and online. I work with women, men, children and adolescents from a holistic perspective. This includes being client - centered, attachment-focused, developmentally aware and trauma-informed..

Strong relationships don't just happen. It’s the reason you’ve poured tons of your time and energy into relationship books, podcasts, and countless YouTube Videos. But no matter what you’ve tried or how badly you want things to work out, you feel like you continue to fall short. And you’re starting to think you must be cursed and maybe it’s time to throw up your hands altogether. What if the healthy relationship you've been reaching yearning for didn't have to feel so out of reach? You are capable and worthy of the relationship you've been craving. Without feeling like you have to change your partner or sacrifice your needs.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
