I mainly treat adults and adolescents, as well as, provide family therapy and parent support.
It's not uncommon for people to find themselves unable to get a handle on their mental and emotional worlds at certain times in their life. Whatever you are suffering from, it only takes the desire to make changes and the courage to ask for help that sets you on a path to feeling better. It is the start that stops most people, so congrats to you for making the first step. Whether you have PTSD/trauma, or needing to overcome anxiety, depression, self esteem, OCD, and more.... I use methods that can produce effective results in a short period of time.

I specialize in helping individuals facing a spectrum of challenges, including anxiety, depression, family issues, trauma, and behavioral struggles.
Therapy is a powerful avenue for receiving guidance, fostering personal growth, and overcoming the challenges we face both in the present and those that lie ahead. As a therapist, my goal is to cultivate a space of safety and support, where individuals can embark on their voyage of self-discovery and healing. As a Latinx who immigrated to the US as a teen, I have had the opportunity to experience two different cultures. Through this, I have learned and continue to overcome the challenges that arise. I am committed to empowering individuals in navigating life's complexities, forging resilience, and uncovering their inherent strength.

Wise ones have advised, "Know thyself." My work as a therapist is to assist you to do just that...to help you learn about yourself, but to learn with much more compassion and empathy than you've likely allowed yourself before. Whether you are seeking couple's, individual, or family therapy, I will work with you to understand the issues you name more fully. We will then identify resources, strategies, and tools you can use to address and manage those issues more effectively. I utilize psychodynamic, CBT, EMDR, mindfulness-based, and relational approaches, and attempt to offer a holistic perspective.

We may encounter many challenges along our path. Challenges may include loss, chronic/terminal illness, trauma and mood disruption. At times, we can manage these challenges on our own. At other times, working with someone can be of benefit - perhaps even a necessity - allowing us to understand and move through the challenge; reconnect with ourselves and others and generally function better in the world. As a licensed psychotherapist and clinical social worker, I offer my knowledge, skill, curiosity and compassion in a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental environment to support you and/or family members in this process.

I have been trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Imago Couple and Parenting Therapy, Relational Model, Therapy, Internal Family Systems, (IFS), and Stress Management and Psychodynamic Therapy.
I have more than 20 years of experience, specializing in couples therapy, and working with individuals and families. Couples will learn more effective proven communication techniques, how to remove negativity from their relationships, and gain a better understanding of self-defeating behaviors. Couples move toward conscious connection as they come to understand each other better. They have more compassion as their defenses drop, and intimacy grows deeper, both emotionally and sexually.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
