I work with individuals and families who are experiencing mental health, marital issues, suicidal thoughts, grief, loss, and other issues that can be very challenging, stressful and overwhelming. Reducing your symptoms and improving your daily functioning is my goal. I provide support and counseling to clients from diverse backgrounds, personalities, and cultures. Services are delivered with respect, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Together you and I will collaborate to develop a treatment plan to meet your individual or family needs.

I help adults who want breakthroughs in their individual lives or in their complicated family. Adulting requires problem-solving skills, including mastering emotions that may threaten to overwhelm us. I help individuals and couples who are ready to tolerate the anxiety of making changes in their own perspectives and behavior. Others may struggle with unwelcome changes (break-ups, losing a job, stepfamily issues) and need strategies to move forward with purpose and peace. I can help you, too. Although I highly value the intimacy of in-office sessions, I also offer Zoom sessions.

My ideal client is seeking increased freedom to remove barriers to growth, and to work toward meeting self-identified goals while building on current strengths. Whether struggling with worrisome anxiety, feelings too depressed to enjoy, or behaving in ways that the client wants to change, I tend to take a person-centered, supportive approach to helping. Clients benefit from solution-focused approaches while increasing self-awareness to identify and use strengths, for greater ease of handling life's ups and downs, using clear, simple self-management tools and effective coping. I use psycho-education to ensure client's self-efficacy.

To me, what makes counseling so transformational is the possibility for the client to feel safe enough to let themselves trust their therapist and be truly seen. It’s in the moments where clients take the risk to be vulnerable that they allow themselves to be known and understood, which lays the foundation for healing. As a therapist, I don’t believe it is my role to give advice, but to serve as a mirror to my clients, reflecting back to them what I see and hear to deepen their self-awareness, all the while offering a compassionate and nonjudgmental presence.

I approach therapy through 3 lenses; one that is empathetic, a curious learner, & one that is a facilitator of thought. The development of a team-like mentality is very important to the therapeutic relationship and growth. My clients are experts on their own lives, & I am here to learn & help you create awareness. Genuineness, trust, & openness is encouraged so that we may learn about ourselves, live a valued life, & grow to the best of our ability. My main areas of focus are Psychedelic/Ketamine Infusion Therapy Integration (Preparation and Processing Afterwards), Harm Reduction/Substance Misuse, Anxiety, ADHD, and Depression.

As a counselor, I have the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, but my heart lies in supporting children ages 3-10, as well as young adults. I’m passionate about utilizing play therapy—a method I find incredibly effective and rewarding—in helping children navigate through behavioral, social, and emotional difficulties. In addition, for both children and young adults, I offer space for those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship/family stressors. My approach centers on building a strong relationship with my clients because I believe that trust is the cornerstone of your counseling experience.

I believe in a balanced approach to emotional, mental, and physical change through the counseling process. I see counseling as a collaborative experience between client and therapist in a safe environment where we work as a team to define present problems, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I approach counseling from a cognitive-behavioral perspective in that patterns of thoughts and actions are explored in order to better understand the client's problems and to develop solutions.

Julie Christman is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 10 years experience in the mental health field. She is passionate about helping individuals develop more emotionally healthy skills and relationships. She specializes in depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, and women's issues. Julie completed a Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology at McNeese State University and obtained her license after completing 3000 hours of counseling practice under supervision. She has been married for 25 years and has 3 children.

I want to help you achieve this goal. I don’t want to label, stigmatize, or “cure” anyone. I want to help people understand the behaviors that are negatively affecting their lives so that they can create ones that are more satisfying, fulfilling, and meaningful. And I use my knowledge and experience to support anyone interested in doing so.
