Our capacity to connect, both with ourselves (i.e. our passions, feelings, and body) and with others, is crucial to our feelings of well-being. When we connect, we generally feel a sense of aliveness in ourselves and the world. When we can't connect, we feel anxious, isolated, empty, or depressed. I feel my job is to help clients to more fully connect to the range of their experiences. I help adults and adolescents explore why they lose connection. I help them identify, understand, and overcome the deep root of their disconnection. I help them find well-being, which gives me great joy.

Some events leave lasting marks, making it hard to rediscover your true self. You feel jaded, distant, and burdened by memories. Daily tasks become daunting. For first responders, military personnel, trauma survivors, and families, this struggle is real. You yearn to shed the edge, the alertness, the anger. You crave normalcy, trust, and joy with loved ones. You long to reclaim your essence

Building and living a life that we feel has meaning, laughter, & connection is not easy. When we don't have these things life can feel unpredictable, unsafe, & hard to face. I believe that on a human level we all want to feel like we matter, have purpose,& other humans who understand us. I have experienced feeling like my life was not worth continuing & a counselor supported me in creating a life that I am proud of. This is where much of my passion comes from to support others in doing the same. I have been supporting others for over 10 years to learning how to foster healthy relationships, coping skills, communication, & self love.

Hello! My name is Jenny Johnson, and during my time as a counselor, I have met many amazing clients, who have inspired me and shown me the power of humanity. I have worked with people who struggle with substance abuse problems, were incarcerated in state prison and county jail, signed themselves into 90 day treatment programs for substance abuse, battled with mental and emotional turmoil, and are trauma survivors. I am honored to work with my clients and it is a position I take very seriously. I also provide clinical supervision for future LPC and/or LAC counselors.

“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct.”- Carl Jung. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I work with all ages. I have worked with children and families for over 20 years, and my greatest joy is found in being a “helper.” Registered Play Therapist means that I have a specialty in play therapy. While this specialty equips me in a unique way to work with children and adolescents, I believe that play helps us to see our way through life's problems with fresh eyes. It's common for me to incorporate some playfulness in all my work with families and individuals.

Setbacks are not failures but questions asked of our own desire. Finding the way forward sometimes means exiting first through the back door of the symptom. You may yield to your symptom in order to suffer less (or more), or resist it the way you resist scratching that itch that won’t ever keep you from scratching it again, or you can anesthetize it or otherwise exist while it is simultaneously taking up space within you, speaking with your own body, killing your own time. But you can’t really live with your symptom, can you? In analysis the symptom becomes a most singular path to the peculiarity of your own unprecedented being.

Have I ever been in therapy? Yes, and it was life-changing. My personal therapy inspired me to leave my previous profession as an architect and become a therapist to provide healing to others. My goal is to create a place of trust where you can share your life's stories, remove the blocks keeping you from a better life, help you find balance, and eliminate the swings from highs to lows. I believe we can work together to discover the source of your conflict, find your strength and understanding to resolve problems, and allow you to move toward new positive actions.

Have you tried everything to make your life better and it doesn't seem to work, or it works for a short time and things go right back to the way they were? Have you used alcohol or drugs to medicate uncomfortable feelings to feel normal, but never really feel normal no matter how hard you try? When we have suffered life-altering disappointments we tend to feel that we are different from others. When we try to connect with others, sometimes it doesn't work out as we anticipated. These disappointments can make us feel there is no hope for us.

Most of us at one time or another need help, but feel overwhelmed asking for it. Are you having a hard time making sense of what is going on in your life? If you find yourself having a difficult time moving on from past life events which leave you feeling stuck, paralyzed, irritable, anxious, sad, depressed, or overwhelmed, then I would like to help you. Therapy cannot change what happened to you in the past, but it can provide insight, understanding, and resolution. Allow me to help you make sense of the things that no longer make sense.

It is my belief that as humans, we are wired for connection and community. Adverse life experiences can bring us to a place of isolation and addiction. One of the greatest experiences as a therapist is watching others overcome and grow through adversity, along with the resilience it takes to do so. Maybe you feel stuck in your issues or feel unsure of the next steps.. My purpose as a therapist is to create space for you to build the life you want and a self acceptance that highlights your innate worth.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
