My focus is on helping survivors of traumatic events, relationships and social systems to heal and address the impact that these experiences have had on their adult lives. Maybe you've noticed symptoms like intrusive thoughts, sleep problems, feeling on guard, not being able to remember things you feel you should or having very negative beliefs about yourself and the world. You may have dealt with the symptoms for so long that they seem like a part of you- unhelpful patterns, depression, anxiety, problems with substances, difficulty making desired life changes in your career, relationships or parenting. Things can be different!

Do you feel alone on your journey through chronic pain? Have you experienced that doctors can’t find anything wrong, that the pain moves around or isn’t consistent, or you never healed after an injury? I personally know what it’s like to suffer from chronic pain that lasted 20+ years. I’m happy to say that, with Pain Reprocessing Therapy, I am now pain-free and have huge success helping clients heal from chronic pain as well. If you are curious about how much the brain can re-wire and reduce the sensation of physical pain, then you may benefit from this work.

Instead of memories highlighted by strokes of gold, you might have interpersonal strife, crippling anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or a sadness so great you wonder if anyone could ever find you in its depths.
Have you ever heard of the term "Kintsugi" before? It's an ancient Japanese art form wherein an artist takes the broken pieces of a vase, and mends the cracks back together to restore the art piece. Each crack is then highlighted with strokes of shimmery, golden paint. Kintsugi encourages the artist to heartily and radically embrace the pottery's scars to reveal a new and enriched beauty. I have always been inspired by the redeeming process of the Kintsugi art, especially as it relates to counseling. The very art form itself seems to question why brokenness should invalidate worth, pride, beauty, and value.

In my many years as a therapist, I have gained considerable experience addressing issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, codependency, and stress management to name a few.
I believe that we are all experts in our own lives and have an innate ability to overcome adversity. But sometimes it's just too hard to do alone. My goal as a psychotherapist is to offer you tools to understand and claim your strengths, tap into your inner wisdom, and move towards a more fulfilling life. Most importantly, my approach is gentle and non-judgmental.

There is a gap between the way you wish life would be and the reality of life. Anxiety and Depression are just overwhelming and it makes it hard to connect to loved ones, get daily tasks done, and think clearly. You notice yourself feeling so disconnected. And you are finding it hard to have the drive to get things done. Where is the joy in life? You remember enjoying things but now everyday is just gray. You want to be able to feel like the Real You again! Not hidden by anxiety and depression.

Accepting New Clients. As a sex and relationship therapist, I bring a somatic perspective to sessions: highlighting the nervous system, locating feelings in the body, and developing skills for increased pleasure and embodiment. My primary focus is relationships, including relationship to others, community, self, the body, and the natural world. I believe that connecting with ourselves leads to a deeper connection with others, and I practice both individual and relational therapy. In session, I invite deeper conversations around sexuality and gender, which are foundational aspects of who we are and how we express ourselves.

Embarking on or returning to therapy is brave, and I'm here to go at your pace. Therapy should be a space where every part of you belongs: where you feel connected, important, and seen. My hope is that over time, you will feel safe enough with me to feel into difficult and upsetting emotions. I will move towards you with curiosity, warmth, and acceptance so that we can go to those hard places together. In our work together, we will also play, be silly, and feel into and towards joy, excitement, and hope. Please note that I primarily work with youth between the ages of 12 and 25 and their families.

Healing and growth can take place when we can truly be present with the challenges in our life. To heal and move beyond our suffering we must undertake an honest process of self-examination. Baby steps may be required. Everyone has the key to their own healing somewhere within, for within all of us there is a knowing and a creativity that has the answers to our struggles. It is my job to be a compassionate safe support assisting you in finding your own answers and joining you on your journey to find the solutions that are within you. I work at King Health Associates under the guidance of a Clinical Supervisor.

When we can trust who we are and experience a sense of safety within us, regardless of what shows up to challenge us in the outside world, we begin opening to life in a way that offers us true joy and peace. Your body has the inherent wisdom needed for that kind of healing. I work with women and non-binary folx, and fit best with those seeking something different from traditional talk therapy. I provide an empathic and safe environment in which clients who seek to understand themselves further can explore who they are, free from judgment or criticism, and expand their capacity to tolerate difficulties they may encounter.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
