As a therapist, PhD student and published author, I have extensively researched how leaving home, getting married, blending a family and many other life changes create the complexity of stress and happiness.
So many times I hear people say, "I'm just tired. There's never enough time, money..." Life does not have to be a constant tug of war with obligations from marriage, children, work and so many other things pulling from every direction. What's driving you to continue adding more to the overwhelming obligations you already have? Sometimes, we need a little help to understand unhealthy habits and to create balance. But asking for help can be difficult. Will you take this opportunity to reshape your life in a way that works better for you and your loved ones?

"You are here on earth because there is something that only you can do!" Choosing Now as the time to act and being fully present in your body and in your relationships will take you to infinite possibilities. All of life's answers lie in how deep you are connected to yourself. Do not turn your attention elsewhere to look for the truth, for it is nowhere to be found but within your body.

I have a Bachelor's degree from Baylor University, a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Let's face it. We all experience situations and circumstances in our lives that challenge and inhibit us from fully thriving. I am passionate in coming alongside those who are hurting and those who desire a fresh, objective perspective to get through the stuck areas of their life. My approach is simple... meet people where they are, listen to them and approach their issue with well-researched treatment modalities.

Hello! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing professional counseling services at A Family Place - Counseling. I have over 25 years of experience and have worked with many different populations. I work with individuals (children, teens and adults); couples (married, unmarried, traditional and nontraditional); and families (blended, traditional and nontraditional). At A Family Place, we operate from a strengths-based approach, which, combined with other appropriate therapeutic techniques, is successful because it uses a systemic method for building on client/family strengths to bring about positive change.

I believe it is always a good time to reach out and ask for help. Asking for help is courageous. Wanting to change is brave. And I strongly believe that everyone deserves access to affordable therapy. Whether you want to learn new coping skills for anxiety for the first time, are going through a difficult breakup or life transition, have been struggling with depression on and off your whole life, experiencing parent/child conflict or family issues, or just want to explore self-growth, we can take this journey of growth together, one step at a time.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
