Postpartum Depression - Park Royal, Treatment Facility in Fort Myers
“While the birth of a child is often met with great enthusiasm and joy, in some new mothers, it can also lead to depression. The "baby blues" are quite common in new mothers and are characterized by mood swings and crying jags that fade after several weeks. Some new mothers, however develop a more severe form of depression: postpartum depression (PPD). Postpartum depression isn't a sign of weak character or that a woman doesn't love her baby - it's simply a complication of birth. PPD is quite common, affecting one in every eight (or 13%) woman after birth. Symptoms include pervasive sadness long past the hormone shifts, lack of sleep, and adjustment to life with a newborn, feelings of guilt, anxiety, stress, and feelings of hopelessness. Some women with postpartum depression report that they don't feel joy or excitement about their new baby, which causes extreme emotional distress. With early treatment and proper support, nearly all women with postpartum depression are able to make a full recovery and return to a happy, healthy life with their new baby.

“At any time, you can rethink your life and reinvent yourself. In a fast paced modern world, we are finding that more and more people are experiencing challenges such as depression and anxiety. Many of them choose to self medicate through habits that can develop an addiction. Many more choose to relay on prescribed medications only. However, studies have shown that the greatest chances for success are achieved by combining medication and therapy.

Christine M Needham, Psychologist in Fort Myers
“Unlike most of my colleagues, I assess toddlers and very young children. This is because my specialty is in early child development and many of the disabilities they might have in attention, memory, behavior and learning. I also see school age children, teenagers and, because all of these have parents, I also do family therapy, individual adult therapy, and couples therapy, in an effort to make home life less stressful and more productive for everyone. I usually start with an initial screening or short evaluation in order to determine what the problem is. This minimizes the financial committment for the parent.
