Sometimes it can feel isolating to be alone with our thoughts and emotions - especially if they have been invalidated by those around us. Reaching out to a professional can feel like entering an unexplored path - it may trigger feelings of fear and apprehension. However, as with anything new and unexplored, the more we become familiar with something, the greater our sense of confidence and ease tends to be. I work with clients ages 13 and older who are experiencing any difficulty in some or all major areas of life including social, occupational, family/marital, and/or within oneself.
We do not exist in a vacuum. Like the air we breathe, we are immersed in layers of influence (culture, race, ability, family, gender). I believe it is important to acknowledge these influences when working with clients. In addition, I utilize a cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, and compassionate approach to therapy (with a side of humor).
Therapy is a collaborative contract! I will provide my expertise and guidance in a nonjudgmental and compassionate manner during our time together. Therapeutic change is most effective when skills are practiced outside of the therapy session. As with any new skill, we must practice, practice, and practice some more, to experience change.
