I believe that therapy should not be a mysterious process. A client should should have a sense of the direction, the framework, and the goals. I am a therapist who is active and engaged. I believe in providing feedback and sharing my thoughts and opinions. In other words, I do not want to sit back and only nod my head. I will provide direction to help you. We'll work together in a non-judgmental and safe environment with active and honest communication.
Cognitive Therapy and Schema Therapy are effective, empirically-validated treatments for many problems. Cognitive therapy is a focused, short-term treatment. For other long term issues (self esteem, life-long mood issues, relationship problems, etc.), schema therapy is used. I apply these modalities never dogmatically or rigidly but always with flexibility and creativity.
I am a Founding Fellow in the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. The Founding Fellow designation indicates leaders in cognitive therapy who have made national and international contributions to the field. I am also a certified schema therapist in the International Society for Schema Therapy. My mentor was Dr. Jeffrey Young, the founder of Schema Therapy.
