I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process in which we work together to make sense of the problems that have brought you in, and work towards mutually established goals. Psychotherapy involves verbalizing your thoughts and feelings, exploring relational and behavioral patterns, and learning how past experiences may impact you now. Through this process we strive to gain greater awareness of how both conscious and unconscious processes play out in your emotional, intellectual and relational life. Ultimately, therapy can help individuals come to better understand themselves and exercise greater choice in their lives.
For psychotherapy to be effective, it is essential that one feel safe to explore any and all aspects of oneself. To this end, I take an open, empathic and non-judgmental stance, and I attend very carefully to building trust and safety with clients.
I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, bereavement, trauma, relational difficulties, problems with school or work, and identity issues. I work with adults of culturally diverse backgrounds, as well as gay and lesbian clients.
