Thanks for visiting my profile! I specialize in adults (college - 40's) dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship & career challenges, ADHD, OCD, panic attacks, and trauma. My approach is first to understand your struggles and perspective. And, as needed, supplement your instincts with clinical tools/ insights. I draw from modalities such as CBT, humanism, IFS, attachment theory & mindfulness (see Treatment Approach below). I'm also trained in Positive Psychology—aka. the scientific study of happiness. As such, I aim to help clients both (1) overcome challenges and (2) optimize passion/ well-being in their lives.
Finding a therapist is not fun. Most people see dozens of options on directories like Psychology Today, but have no idea how to narrow their search. If you're experiencing this (or something similar), please call or email to schedule a consultation. I used to say "15-minute consult," but these tend to last closer to 30!
Matt Sosnowsky, MSW, MAPP is the founder of Philadelphia Talk Therapy (serving greater Philadelphia) and District Psychotherapy (serving the DC Metro area, remotely). He has masters degrees in clinical Social Work and Applied Positive Psychology, each from the University of Pennsylvania; and a bachelors degree in Finance from Penn State University.

In addition to my MSW, I earned a Masters of applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania. Positive Psychology is the empirical study of well-being, which is a specialization I sometimes to use with clients to explore strengths, meaning and the pursuit of a life well lived.

Above all else, I take a humanistic approach to therapy; relying on a strong relationship and clients' own instincts to manage distress and find solutions. When needed, of course, my role is to supplement the client's resources with psychological insights and interventions. I do so by drawing on a variety of modalities, including CBT, Emotion-focused therapy, ACT, pos psych. and IFS, among others.
