Counseling is a therapeutic container where you can update and reclaim your story to access more of your vitality and presence. I engage somatic (body focused) modalities, including Somatic Experiencing (TM), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), parts work, yogic concepts, deep inquiry and deep listening. Because embodiment has many dimensions, restoration of flexibility and adaptability to your mind and nervous system can come through many pathways.
Grounding and embodiment are key to the process. Retelling your story has great value, but can also be unhelpfully distressing for some. A somatic approach to EMDR enhances the effectiveness of this modality for changing a person’s limiting relationship to the past. Releasing reactive patterns held in the body, in core beliefs, and in culture is liberating.
Trauma can be transformed in many ways, some unexpected. Being able to reconcile the past can greatly improve our ability to show up for the present. It is important to find a relationship with a counselor who can fine tune the therapeutic combination that works for you.
