Risa Simpson-Davis's Groups

F.I.T. for Kids (Families In Transition)

F.I.T. for Kids (Families In Transition) is a support group to help children, tweens and teens cope with the challenges of their family splitting up. Children will feel less alone just knowing that other kids are experiencing similar feelings and behaviors. They will learn how to manage difficult emotions and rebuild self-esteem, confidence and connections with the family. The F.I.T for Kids groups will provide a safe place for children to express themselves, to heal and move forward. We will be offering 3 separate groups according to age.

More about this group

Parenting Group

Utilizing Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) parents will learn how to effectively communicate with their children through reflective listening, validating feelings, effective discipline and setting appropriate boundaries. Parents will also learn how to structure weekly 30-minute sessions with their children using specifically selected toys that will help them trust, learn boundaries, accept limits and develop self-control. CPRT uses naturally existing parent-child bond, based on the belief that parent-child relationships have more emotional significance to children than a therapist. It empowers parents to help children by avoiding potential feelings of guilt, helplessness and gaining a greater understanding and acceptance of their children.
