Adina Morguelan Ascher, MSW, LCSW, PhD, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in San Francisco
I believe that the therapy process is a practice of paying attention to what is actually happening - it sounds simple, but this is actually a deeply profound and challenging stance to maintain towards life. The work we do in therapy involves bringing elements of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, how we relate to ourselves and to others, and how we move through the world, from the darkness of the unconscious into the light of consciousness where we can take a look at them. We do not have to struggle and toil in order to implement change in our lives.
When we simply notice what is actually happening, we begin to see more clearly the effect that our patterns of thoughts, feelings, and interactions have on the results we get. It is this shift in consciousness that sets in motion the change process in all areas of our lives.
I am an LCSW with expertise in delivering therapy interventions to clients with multiple diagnoses and substance ab/use concerns. I am especially adept at motivational interviewing (MI), motivation enhancement therapy (MET), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness approaches, as well as psychodynamic and systems-based interventions.
