Gordon Cohen, PsyD, Psychologist in Washington
Chosen by my peers in the Best Therapist issue of the Washingtonian magazine, for both my expertise with gay men and lesbians as well as Couples therapy, I also have a general psychotherapy practice for adults, straight men and women . I'm dedicated to helping clients improve the quality of their lives through talk and personal growth work. I help people deal with some of the behavioral or cognitive change which needs to happen quickly, while also addressing the emotional experiences required for transformation in one's lifetime to make lasting change. I am a very interactive therapist.
I've been told that I have a warm, engaging and friendly approach. I am firm, empathic and challenging, encouraging clients with a caring, direct style. My clients change their lives by being in psychotherapy; experience more fulfilling relationships, lessened depressive symptoms, reduced anxiety and live with greater self esteem.
I am also the President of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, www.aapweb.com. I welcome you to visit my website, affirmativepsych.com and schedule a consultation session. Note: I do not generally have evening times available nor work on the weekends.

Gordon Cohen's Groups

Group Therapy for Gay Men

I have three different co-therapists, with groups in the early morning, noontime and evening. These groups are ongoing, experiences, in which members continue the work of psychotherapy, but in a group context. These group experiences become an opportunity for gay men to speak with one another about their lives. They come to know one another over a long period of time and become deeply involved in each others lives. There is no outside contact between members, which allows the work to develop within a community of like minded men who have a sense of security, safety and confidentiality.
