Anita McLean, PhD, PsyD, Psychologist in Princeton
I have over 15 years of clinical experience working with people from different backgrounds who are dealing with mental health concerns. Mental health can be compromised by chronic stress that negatively affects our mind and body. Stress can be a result of challenging workplace environments, family difficulties, personal emotional problems, or the experience loss or trauma. I have particular expertise in helping those working and living in intense high pressure environments and dealing with stressors that may have caused depression and anxiety, identity concerns, relationship problems, workplace conflicts or academic difficulties, family problems, and serious mental health challenges. I provide both individual and couples therapy.
People use therapy in different ways and hence, my work is designed to meet the specific needs of the particular individual or couple seeking help. I use insight oriented, strength based, and supportive therapies and work collaboratively with those seeking help to develop an individualized road map for our therapeutic work together.
In addition to clinical work, I continue to teach at Rutgers University and supervise doctoral level clinicians. Having lived in many cultures, I am interested the impact of culture on our lives and I provide cultural competency trainings to clinicians and agencies statewide. I also offer skill enhancing psychoeducational workshops for couples in the community.
