Kim Skelton, MA, LPCS, LCAS, Counselor in Asheville
*Currently, I am not accepting new clients.* My style with clients is warm, heart-centered, collaborative and recovery-focused. My approach is rooted in existential psychotherapy, DBT (mindfulness, connection, acceptance, responsibility), EMDR (adaptive resolution of trauma), positive psychology and ecopsychology ("connection with" vs. "power over") all aimed at cultivating connection, mindful awareness and compassion. Healing isn't merely suppressing symptoms, recovering from addiction and trauma or understanding dysfunctional, neurotic patterns. Depth psychologist Bill Plotkin suggests healing is about becoming fully human - learning to embody our souls to become conscious contributors to the unfolding story of the more-than-human world.
Because I have a heart for working with trauma and addiction, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP). I have training in expressive arts therapy and intermittently offer various groups. I work well with survivors of a loved one's suicide.
Willow Wellness & Recovery Suboxone Program: Ilona Csapo, MD, Eric Davis, LPCA and I collaborate to offer a comprehensive, private Suboxone treatment program. It consists of medication management, group and/or individual therapy and coordination of care. For more information, visit willowwellnessandrecovery.com or call Eric Davis at 828-772-1803.
