Nicholas McCarley, PsyD, Psychologist in Chicago
Therapy is a rich opportunity to address problems we want to change and gain insights into our personality, past, and presenting concerns. I have been working with patients since 2005 and am passionate about helping individuals and couples find greater satisfaction and experience less distress in their lives. I strive to provide patients with a safe space to talk about sensitive and personal matters, with attention to co-constructing alternative strategies that may provide solutions or relief from stressors and symptoms. My therapeutic approach can be described as integrative, combining psychodynamic, relational, and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral theories and techniques.
My areas of special interest include experiencing and expressing emotion, multicultural identity, depression, relationship counseling, mindfulness, self-compassion, LGBTQ concerns, sex therapy and anger management. I have experience in multiple settings, including university counseling centers, academic teaching and administration, outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, and VA hospitals.
