David E Shannon, MSW, LICSW, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in Saint Paul
In four decades of experience, I have worked with a wide variety of people, problems, and diagnoses. I specialize in alternative sexualities and lifestyles; GLBTQ issues; kink, fetish and leather; gender identity and expression; polyamory and nontraditional families; erotic writers and performers; sex workers; sex offenders; and other marginalized or difficult clients. I help people cope with chronic physical or mental illness, physical limitations, grief and loss, professional burnout. If these categories do not fit, but you are simply dealing with problems in living that we all might face, I'm happy to work with you on those as well.
You are the expert on yourself and your situation. I can help you sort through confusion, better understand and express your feelings, change self-defeating thinking and behaviors, separate the components of complex problems, find solutions that work for you, and feel better about yourself and your ability to cope.
The most effective aspect of therapy is the relationship that develops between you and your therapist. I am comfortable sharing my experiences, thoughts and feelings, when they might be relevant to your goals. Humor is a saving grace ... it's important to be able to laugh at ourselves, with affection!
