Joe DeAngelis, LICSW, CGP, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in Lexington
Some folks simply aren't as happy as they'd like to be. I help people understand and address the root causes of what is blocking them from accomplishing what they want in life. Some people are looking for help with a recent 'life transition' situation, while others are dealing with longer-standing issues of depression, anxiety or difficulties in relationships. Most people find that my laid-back style helps them discuss difficult issues with relative ease.
While my manner is inviting, I am not shy in helping you explore areas you'd rather not look at. I work compassionately, helping you notice, understand and change underlying self-defeating habit patterns. I am particularly good at helping with problems that have been difficult to address in previous therapies.
Along with advanced training in Couples Therapy and Group Therapy, I am a graduate of the four-year Psychoanalytic Training Program at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis. I draw from a broad range of psychoanalytic perspectives as well as advances in the fields of neuroscience, attachment and trauma treatment (especially somatically-based therapies).

Group therapy can give you insight, tools, and practice to improve your relational skills and form authentic connections. This therapy group is for adult men and women who are motivated to explore how they relate to other people and create change in their lives. Group therapy offers a unique and powerful opportunity to know oneself. It is a confidential space to receive feedback, learn about your patterns, and process feelings. Many people have the wish to be known, yet a fear of really being seen. Group therapy provides a safe environment to share you inner experience while receiving support from others.

Interpersonal Relationships Group (50s-70s)

Many people have difficulties being in close relationships; yet closeness and intimacy are what bring us the most joy and satisfaction in life. This group -- for both men and women -- allows members to discuss their relational difficulties and discover through interactions with their peers how to have healthy and enriching relationships. For some, their personal struggles with depression or anxiety have made it difficult to create rich relationships. Many members find that there is a direct relationship between their depression and anxiety and the amount and quality of their connection with others.
