Paul True, PsyD, LMFT, Marriage & Family Therapist in Irvine
"My strength is made perfect in weakness." These words of Jesus to St. Paul have as much psychological as spiritual importance. Every one of us has a weakness, maybe several, which occasions suffering in us, and we try to eliminate our weaknesses, an often frustrating and hopeless task. My work is to help you find a meaning by which your weakness and your suffering, can be translated into strength and peace of mind.
I work with: men of all ages in adjusting to life transitions and important relationships; those who are suffering the effects of trauma; those who are spiritually confused or are experiencing the Dark Night of the Soul. I specialize in Mindfulness practice and Transpersonal perspectives.
I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, especially in Mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming (EMDR) as an approach to trauma and other difficulties with anxiety. I use Jungian and Brief Psychodynamic techniques to address deeper conflicts and problems of living.

Paul True's Groups

Shift Happens -- Men's Life Transitions

Changes in men's lives, especially the mid-life transition, are points in time and space where growth can more readily occur, and where the archetypal process of symbolic death and rebirth has its greatest power. This group explores the nature of change for men in any state of unscheduled transition -- divorce, unemployment, birth of a child or death of a loved one -- and the hardwired shifts in life -- adolescents to adulthood, middle to old age. The group will explore the general patterns of change, and will help each member process his specific personal transition.
