Ms. Ruth Cooper

Marriage & Family Therapist , MA , LMFT

People often believe it is insight that leads to change. But it is also true that consciously experimenting with thinking and behaving differently often results in significant insight and transformation. This is why I emphasize a mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy approach in my work with individuals, couples and families.I have over 20 years of experience in individual and family therapy. My specialties include couple's therapy, the treatment of anxiety disorders, stress-related disorders, alcohol abuse and co-dependency, and recovery from childhood trauma. My practice includes adults, teens, and children 10 and older.
My approach to therapy encourages active participation in the process of change. Clients receive self-help assignments so they end therapy not only feeling better, but with the skills to live better. I hold the attitude that every session can bring breakthroughs. I will work diligently to address your concerns.
Although most sessions occur in the privacy of my office, individual clients have the option to walk outdoors while we talk. For some, walking during sessions can make therapy more productive, enjoyable and emotionally comfortable. I have quiet neighborhood routes adjacent to both my offices.
