I use a variety of approaches ranging from cognitive reframing, exploration of defense mechanisms and automatic thoughts, training in mindfulness, bodily awareness, and examination of feelings, among others. I am interested in the ways in which we each determine our realities, what our minds say to us, and the insight that can be gained from examining those.
My theoretical approach is based in cognitive/behaviorist therapy and extends into existentialist, solution focused, narrative, mindfulness, acceptance/commitment, and psychodynamic theories. I have worked in the field for 25 years, and also run a group practice with several other therapists. I am an adjunct faculty member at the University of Washington and keep current with the latest advances in helping individuals, couples, and families find solutions to their problems. I enjoy my dual role as a therapist and as a trainer of new therapists.
