Carol Carlson, Psychologist in Irvine
I treat psychological or relationship pain by taking a results-oriented approach. When someone suffers from a medical disorder, the doctor does a comprehensive assessment of the problem in order to come up with a correct diagnosis. If the diagnosis is incorrect, treatment will lead to ongoing wasted time. I am a skilled diagnostician who has had referrals from physicians throughout the years for patients who were non-responsive to treatment. Once correctly diagnosed, I develop a treatment plan then we work together to accomplish goals so you can be free from the psychological anguish that led you to seek help.
Specialties include working with marriage / couples issues (utilizing psychological assessments to deepen relational insight) along with adolescents & adults suffering from trauma, loss, grief or any other emotional pain requiring results-oriented, intensive therapy. Expertise in: loss by Suicide or Homicide; Trauma caused by Abuse; PTSD; Attachment Issues; Depression; Family Conflict; Executive Coaching and Forensics.
Before becoming a Psychologist, I spent my career in private industry thus I am extremely focused on achieving effective results in the treatment of psychological disorders. For someone to have psychological pain requiring endless therapy = malpractice from my perspective. Effective treatment leads to emotional health so one can move beyond therapy.

Carol Carlson's Groups

Suicide Survivors

This group is for adults, parents, adult children, or individuals who have lost a family member or loved one to suicide. This group is an incredibly effective way to work through the guilt, shame, rejection, abandonment, emotional / relational / psychological devastation resulting from this most tragic type of loss. The group combines psycho-social education while focusing on movement towards healing. Without facing the pain resulting in death by suicide, relationships are usually negatively affected and the risk for long-term trauma (PTSD) exists. The group focus is: achieving deep healing while working through the complex grief process following death by suicide.
