Carol Carlson, Doctor, Psychologist in Irvine
I treat psychological, emotional or relational pain by taking a results-oriented approach. When someone suffers from a medical disorder, a comprehensive assessment of the problem is required in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis. If the diagnosis is incorrect, treatment will repeatedly fail. As a skilled diagnostician, my focus is to treat patients, many of whom had been non-responsive to previous psychological or medical treatment, in this same way. Only with a correct diagnosis will treatment be effective. Once determined, goals discussed, a treatment plan in place, the therapy begins. Together, we then work to achieve noticeable outcomes, obtain lasting results & conclude treatment.
Trauma, abuse; loss; mood & anxiety disorders; marriage / couples conflicts and with adolescents. I have unique expertise working with Clergy Sexual Abuse victims, Survivors who have lost loved ones due to Suicide or Homicide; Relationship problems; Attachment or Intimacy difficulties; PTSD & Faith-Based struggles. Within the private sector, I provide executive coaching, leadership development & organizational assessments.
Before becoming a Psychologist, I spent my career in private industry so I am extremely focused on achieving effective results in the treatment of psychological / relationship problems. For someone to have psychological pain requiring endless therapy = malpractice from my perspective. Effective treatment leads to emotional health so one can move beyond therapy.

Carol Carlson's Groups

Suicide Survivors

This group is for adults, parents, adult children, or individuals who have lost a family member or loved one to suicide. Its focus is to provide a foundational path towards healing from this complex grief reaction. As a result of this particular loss, guilt, shame, rejection, abandonment, emotional / relational and a trauma reaction pattern evolves. The group combines psychological education, grief work and a plan for long-term healing. Without moving into the pain resulting from death by suicide, relationships suffer & the emotional anguish intensifies. For immediate grief reactions, individual therapy is recommended. Effective group therapy requires an initial passage of time.
