I treat a vast variety of people with a wide array of issues. I stay fairly current in session, although the importance of our past cannot be avoided. We coped and survived in a certain way as children. These strategies continue and sometimes, we hit a wall (because the ways that worked, don't work anymore). This is not to say these strategies are bad, they just are not useful anymore and new ones are to be explored to enhance the rest of your life. Some areas are relationships, dating, breakups, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, workalcholism, creativity, gay issues, and success.
My specialties were death, dying, grieving, and loss. Although I still work with depression, anxiety, illness, etc., I also work with people with no diagnoses - just a need to sort out a current issue, are in a crisis, or want to learn coping or communications skills (especially important with couples).
My training was psychodynamic, but I have a verbal, interactive, and eclectic approach. I am not technique-oriented, since everyone is individual. I feel that not only listening is essential, but interaction and dialogue too.

SORRY, THIS GROUP IS CLOSED. Dating and being involved with someone in New York City presents unique challenges. When these intersect with our needs and desires it can be discouraging, depressing, even overwhelming. I offer two groups- one for the dating and one for the moving on from a breakup. These groups are forming and provide support, a sense of community, and strategies for coping and forming good relationships! Call 212-362-5459 and please tell me about your ideal schedule for attending and when I can reach you. You can also email me at drcfrb@hotmail.com.

Death of a Loved One

SORRY, THIS GROUP IS CLOSED, PLEASE CALL FOR A REFERRAL AND TO CHECK ON WHEN IT WILL RESTART. Besides providing an outlet for the terrible loss, this group will provide community, normalizing the loss experience, and offer coping strategies for how to deal with everyone wanting you to be "better" etc. We aren't really taught what the real experience is... Mourning is a long and individual process which doesn't have to stop us, but cannot be buried either. This group is forming and will be scheduled at the most convenient times for everyone. We accept sliding scale for those who need it.
