I have over 10 years of experience in treating anxiety disorders (such as OCD, panic disorder, and phobias), depression, and difficulties related to psychological trauma. For the past 7 years, I have also been treating eating disorders and trichotillomania. I work primarily from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. This involves my client and me working as a collaborative team to determine what skills it would be useful for my client to learn and practice in order to reduce distress and achieve a greater sense satisfaction and happiness in their life.
Recently, I have also started incorporating mindfulness meditation techniques in my work as new research has indicated the efficacy of these techniques in treating anxiety and depression. I have meditated off and on for 20+ years and have personally found meditation to be useful in attaining a greater sense of peace.
I am quite pragmatic and am committed to providing therapy that has been validated by research. One way I do this is to provide home visits and sessions outside of the office as needed. Finally, I believe that the therapy relationship needs to be full of warmth, care, humor, and teamwork.
