Many problems in adulthood stem from what we learned in childhood. Many strategies that were successful when we were young (ways to feel safe, reduce our anxieties, and calm our fears) no longer work in adulthood. We will talk about your childhood so that we can get a clearer idea of what you learned and how that may interfere with your happiness now. I have worked successfully with clients who are dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety (panic attacks, OCD), trauma and abuse, addictions (drugs, alcohol, sex), relationship problems, and issues of identity (sexual orientation, racial and ethnic identity).
Many of my clients have prior psychotherapy experience, sometimes disappointing. Some are men who have had limited experience with psychotherapy. Many have told me that the way I work is straightforward and that they understand why I ask the questions I do, and why I challenge old patterns.
In addition to my private practice, I have worked and trained at a number of hospitals and clinics. I have taught and supervised graduate and medical students, and until recently, was the program coordinator of an outpatient addictions clinic in the Bronx.
